Great analysis here, the dude's voice notwithstanding. As a breh who always considers his words carefully and often speaks more nonverbally, I really appreciate how great of an actor she is. I mean, I watched Inside Man: Most Wanted solely for her :manny:

Sloppy? Yes.

I don't think he's greedy at all though. He's doing all this crazy shyt because he misses hustling.

Fred.
he misses the adrenaline, he could of left that house without going upstairs. he did what he told that other guy who gets the identity information not to do, rob the house

I know Saul sort of gave himself up by mentioning the bond thing in different states, but why would Marion type in "con man"? :jbhmm:
the dog story…it was kind of absurd but she had no real reason to question it until their last conversation on the phone…and as an old woman she probably figured he was trying to con her/take advantage of her based on their “happenstance” meeting which she begins to realize may have been a lie…plus we see him as a lawyer cuz we know him as “saul” for so long but he’s always had that con man/used car salesman stench to him…so she probably figured he is familiar with the law bcuz he’s a slick talking criminal instead of a lawyer
That makes no sense. Why would something long ago randomly pop up when the phone convo had nothing to do with that? Unless I missed something about the dog. :dwillhuh:
You’re thinking too deep about this. :mjlol:

And I’m taking straight up “law,” not “lawyer.” The convo was about the different type of bond payments in each state, so a search like “Albuquerque bail law” comes off better than “abq con man” in that situation. I guess, like you said, she was worried about getting conned, so she searched out that and the city since Saul came off confident. Just feel it coulda been handled differently. :ld:
Gene made her suspicious in the previous episode by

1. hastily bailing on her to go to the garage with jeff
2. she saw out the window of gene being aggressive with Buddys dog, making his previous portrayal as a loving dog person come into question.

the phone call and him knowing the ins and outs of law in ABQ and Omaha was the last straw that made her get the computers putin.

@The Collector, you have to remember that Marion already has been feeling some major red flags about Gene. Gene was supposed to be her friend, the guy she met trying to find his dog, his relationship with Jeffy is secondary. So when he's started to seem like he has something going on with Jeffy, it has her confused. Especially since she's always worried about Jeffy getting into more trouble. Then when she saw all three of them fukking around secretly in the middle of the night, and Jeffy is arrested the next morning, and he calls Gene for help instead of her and Gene pretends Ricky ain't involved when she knows Ricky was there with them last night, and then in that conversation Gene is way too familiar with bail procedures and the differences between Omaha and Albequerque, she now has a LOT of flags going off. Not to mention that she's never seen any sign of Nippy all this time even though Gene claimed to love him so much and drive around with him.

1. She was always worried about the guys Jeff met in Albequerque.
2. Gene approached her and built a relationship with her under an innocent pretense, yet is clearly doing dirt with Jeff.
3. Gene appears connected to Albequerque in some way and thus she assumes he's one of the "bad guys" Jeff met there who has now followed him up here.

Now remember, Marion is an uninformed old lady in some ways but she isn't a naive rube. From the time we got introducted to her its been established that she's skeptical as fukk and it's tough to win her trust. Jimmy's a great conman so he was able to do it, but he's slipped up WAY too much now, and that reverts her back into skeptical Marion mode, the woman who tests everything and doesn't trust anyone.

It makes sense that once Gene started slipping, she would turn on him quickly, and her assumption that he's a guy who followed Jeffy here from Albequerque and conned her into letting him become part of the family, and now is lying so smoothly over the telephone, fits Albequerque Conman more than anything else.

Well like I said earlier in the thread, I think in this case he had to rob the house because he broke the door.

It's much easier to accept a couple teenagers broke in, stole a few watches, etc. than somebody broke in and took nothing. Which would make anyone paranoid.

Obviously this is all a moot point in the end due to the cop car showing up.

Fred.

great ep :wow:

cant believe next week its over :mjcry:
Amazing episode, nail the landing and this is certified top 5 for me.

Rhea and Bob both getting Emmy's.
Great episode.

Gene in cancer guy's house was TENSE! .It was long past time for karma to bytchslap Gene. He managed to slip out of that cancer guy’s house thanks to Jeff’s stupidity :mjlol:

Nice touch that the commercial was in color.

Was not expecting Kim to encounter Jesse in that flashback. Everything else in the show was perfect, but this Kim and Jesse flashback scene felt forced

I was glad that Cheryl finally found out what really happened to Howard, and even more glad that she told Kim fukk off. Congratulations on telling the truth after six years when all the witnesses are dead and all you have is hearsay. Howard’s reputation is still ruined and odds are it’s too late to recover any kind of body. But Kim cleaned her conscience. Put that on the medal.
It was too little, too late, and judging from her breakdown on the bus, she knows it. However, she's still a little bit protecting Jimmy "...assuming my ex-husband is still alive".

One more to go! Perhaps we’ll see the Gene stuff in color?

Fantastic episode, definitely top-3 in the season. Opening Kim scene was beautifully scripted, Jimmy moments when he was about to do deep wrong shyt were tense as fukk, Kim clearing the air was an amazing twist I don't remember anyone predicting yet it totally made sense that it had to be done or she would never move on with her life, her acting all episode was prefect, and personally I loved the writing on Jesse's speech.

All they have to do next week is keep this momentum. I love this show.

cuz she got the power of the internet on her side…she about to graduate from watching cat videos to exposing muthafukkas online :wow:

but seriously I imagine that’s how it’ll play out…she expressed concern about her son being in with the wrong ppl before and now she sees an upset gene showing up in the middle of the night to secretly meet up with her son and friend in the garage…I figure she’s gonna attempt to do some digging around online
Maybe Marion's laptop and learning how to use the search bar may come into play. Like she might find Better Call Saul commercials on youtube.
Because she's a nosy old broad with nothing but time on her hands and computer access.

Gene already told her an easy to disprove lie about the dog for seemingly no reason too - maybe he was feeling unfukkwithable after pulling off the department store job. At this point, compared to how careful/paranoid he'd been as Gene up til then, it's like he's trying to get caught. :manny:

If it was to happen, it would be kind of poetic after his whole 'elder law' bit back in the day :leon:
I get the feeling She gonna stumbled onto an old Saul commercial on YouTube.

Y'all NAILED that shyt.

At it being "Ask Jeeves" that did it. :mjlol:

did Saul slip up there? :lupe:
how does Gene know bail process?
she about to bust him

he should of never mentioned albuquerque

Yeah, the combination of his adrenaline coming off that crazy night, being in "con" mode where he's overconfident and thinks he got it all under control but also being rusty and sloppy, sleep-deprived, stressed, and underestimating Marion.....perfect storm of events to make that slip-up and her reaction to it work perfect. Especially when she's already had those suspicions.

He was trying to act like a know-it-all to keep mom from getting worried, when really he should have acted like a freaked-out rube who was just as worried as she was. Gene's confidence was the final straw that told her he was in the game and had her go searching for the Albequerque con.....fidence man.

The husband was too stupid
Kim could have got a better dude

Nah, I think she didn't want a better dude. First of all she feels guilty and hates herself and so she doesn't want to put the work into a relationship to do better, she's just been grabbing guys off the shelf. And second she's just trying to lie low and hide who she is, she doesn't want some guy who is gonna be asking her real questions and trying to understand her emotions and shyt.

That guy wasn't even that bad, he was a superficial doofus but he wasn't an a$$hole or anything.

One time i got high and was driving(i was fine but they would smell it i usually never get high n drive)…at the light and a white motorcycle woth a flashing light and a big ass white helmet that cops wear…my heart sunk lmaoo….i was like fukk…

Turns out it was one those motorcycle people that escorts funeral family 😂😂😂😂

An old childhood friend of mine from Oregon was hotboxing in his car in the middle of nowhere at the parking lot for some bike trail and cops pulled into the same random parking lot that he was alone in. He thought he looked too suspicious + he was paranoid so he pulls out as quick as he could and as he's leaving he sees them turning around. So he suddenly pulls over to the side of the road, grabs a pair of binoculars he has on the back seat, and pretends to be birdwatching.

They drove on by. :russ:

Ironic shyt is that he called Ricky the amateur, but if they had just let Ricky call the shots that night no one would have gotten hemmed up and Marian would still only have limited suspicions. Gene forcing that meeting at Jeffy's house and then Gene/Jeff looking like total fukk-up amateurs on the scene is gonna do them all in. Poor Ricky definitely gonna get caught up in it too.

I thought they was about to take Saul to a really dark place there.

The tension was real. Twice in the episode they were about to give Saul damn near the worst murder in the entire series.

Oh, he WANTS to get caught. :mjcry:
This nikka wanna get caught

That's what I was feeling too. He's had enough with the hiding and the fear, subconsciously he's stopped being careful and checking his back all the time, he just wanted to wild out with it and fukk the consequences.

He's been suffering for years living this mundane existence. He went from flamboyant Cam pink suits to living a life devoid of color in black and white. That's suffering for Saul. He's got the skill, will and most importantly, the luck, to escape any scenario. We've seen it. He's just gotta do it one last time. Ain't no way Pinkman can live after popping Gale and Jimmy getting taken down by Marion with the "Help I've fallen and I can't get up!" Life Alert button.

It hasn't been years. There was only 6 months from when he took the vacuum deal to when he started the scam on the mall cops. Gene definitely has gotten off the lightest of all of them, and he was living that obscene rich life for 5 years while Kim was rotting in Florida racked with guilt.

Jimmy got psycho murderer Lalo out of prison and so is partially responsible for all his deaths that followed, destroyed Howard's life and fukked up everyone in Howard's orbit, was an associate in Brock's poisoning and the cover-up, was an associate in the cover-up of Drew Sharp's death, tried to have Mike and Jesse taken out at different times, and repeatedly super-charged the meth operation and kept it going even when others wanted to hang it up. He's responsible for an incredible amount of fukkery in Albequerque.

Jimmy loves himself too much to kill himself
none of the major characters in BrBa/BCS ended up doin time. seems fitting the one that kept people out of prison ends up in prison himself.

I agree. In fact he's probably gonna do his time better than anyone else on the show would have, conning other immates out of their commissary and shyt.

If I was a woman? :dahell:

I don't know what I would do if I was a woman, but if I was a disgraced and disillusioned conman who had gotten my former coworker killed while ruining a ton of lives, was running from my past life, and with little effort landed some decent-looking superficial younger woman who treated me respectfully and the worse thing she did was say "Yup!" in bed.... :ehh:

I just made the connection between Yup Man and the rest of Kimmy's life.... That entire run of scenes, the common thread is that she doesn't make any decisions anymore, every time someone asks her a question she just hedges and fails to commit, letting everyone make decisions around her. Same shyt happened with the guy - she's just saying yes and taking whoever comes along, she's not willing to work to make decisions about her life anymore. He's just the guy who made himself available.

I struggle to imagine that's going to bother her all that much. :unimpressed:
