Electronic Arts rolled out details on the Premium Pass for DICE's Battlefield 1. The Premium Pass is available for pre-order right now for $49.99 over on the Origin website. So what do you get in the pass? Well, quite a bit of content, actually.

The pass was detailed over on the Origin storefront, where they explain that the pass will net you access to Battlefield 1content two weeks earlier than everyone else, this includes maps, armies and other digital expansion packs.

There will be four themed digital expansion packs released over the course of Battlefield 1's market lifespan. The first major expansion will be available starting in March, 2017 when the French army is introduced into the game for the very first time. The expansion is called "They Shall Not Pass", which instantly draws me back to Gandalf versus the Balrog in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

They don't say what the other three expansion packs will be, but they do note that one of them will contain the Russian Empire, who will bring their own series of weapons, vehicles, uniforms and equipment to the battlefield.

In total, the Battlefield 1 Premium Pass will contain 16 brand new multiplayer maps spread across the four expansion packs, along with 20 new weapons themed after the real life equipment used by the various armies during World War I, along with 14 unique dog tags and Battlepacks that contain specially designed weapon skins. They note that each new Battlepack will be made available every month starting after November, 2016.

It kind of sounds like Electronic Arts and DICE have already planned out all of the downloadable content for Battlefield 1 well ahead of its official release. It's always worrisome when you see expensive, DLC roadmaps laid out before the game is even on store shelves.

Of course, a lot of gamers probably can't wait to get their hands on the upcoming FPS title, as DICE has been making the game look extremely mouthwatering with proper eighth gen visual effects and the kind of intense battle atmosphere that only the Battlefield series could contain. The game's announcement trailer is one of the most viewed and upvoted trailers online, standing in contrast to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which has one of the most downvoted and viewed trailers online.

The rivalry between Call of Duty andBattlefield will finally reach a fever pitch this fall, possibly giving Battlefield the first ever leg-up in sales over its rival after it came real close to dethroning Call of Dutyback in 2011 with Battlefield 3, which introduced gamers to true next-gen gaming well ahead of the release of the PS4 and Xbox One.

For Battlefield 1, the only thing EA and DICE need to make sure of is that they don't overdo it with the DLC and that the game works right out of the box. You can look to get your hands on the game and the Premium Pass starting October 21st. Pre-orders are also available right now.
