I dont see what's so weird about my point of view. I'm not ignorant to the fact that some people are better writers. But everyone technically can freestyle, even if they're not good at it. To not even try but still call yourself a rapper doesn't sit well with me.

Freestyle is a major aspect of the art form, but nikkas who dont have any talent are tryna diminish it I see. It's not about being "good" at it, it's about participating because that's what true MCs do. In fact, battle rappers used to be clowned back in the day if it was obvious all their shyt was written.

Its just a perception of freestyling for real by the fans and artists alike which is corny because it doesn't get enough credit. I get it because there had to be some of these dudes who thought they were that good at off the top freestyling ahd the shyt came off bad. However, them same nikkas and some of the fans, like some in here, won't admit some good on the spot/non written freestyles were dope as fukk. And some of these dudes can do it but ever since Drake read bars off his phone and nikkas want to hear written material constantly, it sadly made the value freestyling look crazy among these fools.

Nice! Avo leveling up even more.

It’s admirable if you can freestyle off the top of your head at a high level, but Written rhymes are better then off the top freestyles, and that’s what I’d rather hear.

Believe me I thought it was cool when I was younger, but I’d rather listen to some shyt that’s prepared, and that includes battles, cyphers, and music.

Lux going up to the funk flex with a well written memorized “freestyle” is much better then a nygga spitting off the top of his head. Surf going up the i-95 with a well written memorized “freestyle” is much better then hearing a nygga just rap whatever comes to mind.

I will always say it depends on the skillset. Reason being is that some people who can freestyle their ass off really can't write for shyt. Becausr they might be overthinking what to write for long periods of time. I get where you are coming from but to be honest, I don't think written material for everyone works out as their best either. I'm not even talking battle rap, I just mean in general. You gotta think about how in the moment some of these guys can be even when its not the most layered metaphor or crazy ass real talk you have heard. The fact is if you have a skillset where you can capture a moment well enough with improv that alot of people aren't able to do, that's still considered a talent that shouldn't be overlooked.

I don’t disagree with any of this. Even in battle rap, we’ve seen guys freestyle much better then they can write (prep). Hell, Snoop can freestyle forever, but uses ghostwriters.

I do think these type of dudes are in the minority though.
