Surf is already on Twitter dropping hints that he's gonna half ass the battle and nikkas ain't peepin. I'm cool if he never battles again and just focuses on music.

You definitely peeped it early, it's a lot more obvious now with these blogs dropping & reports of him getting mixxy with industry artists.

The rounds way of judging has always been dumb. Rex didn't beat Math. Cal didn't beat Ill. Cortez didn't beat Marv. Holla didn't beat Verb. All those battles have CLEAR winners. If you have to go into utter semantics to explain why someone else won then even you know they lost. This is performance art there's no points system.

I though Holla won both the first two rounds against Verb and STILL prefer his material in those rounds, but then Verb won the battle.

it used to just be like this, too. it helped when battles werent shown to millions or even recorded at all, but battles being broken down by round must have started around when URL would release individual rounds, i think because youtube had a 10 minute limit, right?

I think it happened even after that, because Hoffa/Rex was released like that and Holla winning was unanimous. I feel like it happened between SM1 and 2. SM2 is when you have Calicoe yelling "I WON 2-1" while his soul is leaving his body in Lux's 3rd.

I think it might be a crossover from GT/KOTD judged battles of around the time.Those were the first battles to be hyperanalyzed like that instead of just "so and so won".

Drugz v Bill: Battle was decent (Drugz 2-1). Wasn't as crazy as people made it out to be during the event imo. shyt had crazy moments, but a decent amount of dry spots as well. Bill has been kinda OD'n on that comic relief shyt lately; I might be in the minority, but I prefer a Bill that's 75% bar 25% jokes over this Bill that's reversed the two. Drugz spit some decent shyt and continues to flash potential but not really have a standout performance imo.

Side note, I appreciate the fact that the Goonies are (for the most part) a bunch of up and coming dudes that basically got together because they liked each other and not really to form a super group. Roc's team for example just kinda seems cobbled together to have the strongest roster possible, but the Goonies seem more organic to me. We're watching them develop together and improve and make an impact in real time.

i didnt think of GT but yeah that's probably it. i dont mind judging by round but it's not gospel like some want. even "consensus" is stupid because nearly everyone talks about battle rap in the echo chamber they're familiar with

Yeah, I think PB and CAPS have definitely crossed the line with the battlers. At the same time, CAPS is right about how battlers will cross the line themselves but get mad at bloggers for doing the same thing. Overall, its dumb but more so, just foul since PB got kids and etc. that stay with him.
