It was during an Event called "Infinity."
It was an event that dropped during two twin comic arcs, "Avengers" and "New Avengers", that were written and released concurrently by John Hickman.
Both books started in 2012.

I think we tend to forget this dude is also on a quest to get all the stones.
All this time we been thinking Thanos is the big bad, but really its The Collector "hatching" his own plan...

the guardians roll up secretly to the collectors spot and u see the collector laying on the ground with thanos foot on his chest asking for the stone he has and the collector saying he doesn't know, it doesn't look good for him like he about to get offed, and star lord makes some joke about them needing to the quiet and it ends
going off my last post, the only thing that would bug me is
not seeing a bunch of celestials or whatever they are get together. i know Collector and Grandmaster are brothers, and i think there are more of them. that would have made for a cool scene down the line, but fukk a Collector.
