If the question were changed to "If he hasn't had a main event run in 1 year's time", yes. Like Bryan, AJ's claim to fame is his in ring performances, and with him being on the downside of his prime, they should probably utilize it, before it's gone.

All AJ has said so far is he wants to prove he belongs in the "big leagues." No title aspirations. AJ Styles so far is content with fighting the social outcasts and 45 year old men with absolutely nothing on the line.
When NJPW picked up AJ, they threw him into the main event scene right away. And it worked. Just another case of WWE not knowing shyt
