Tagging the non bias posters that I can think of.

How many of the previous national championship teams since 2014 would this 2024 Ohio State team beat? :patrice:

2023: Michigan (CFP)
2022: Georgia (CFP)
2021: Georgia (CFP)
2020: Alabama (CFP)
2019: LSU (CFP)
2018: Clemson (CFP)
2017: Alabama (CFP)
2016: Clemson (CFP)
2015: Alabama (CFP)
2014: Ohio State (CFP)

Beating this team just comes down to being able to pressure Howard, IMO. Whether on defense or forcing them into a real shootout. The no question teams are 2018 Clemson, 19 LSU, and 22 Georgia. The ones I would have them favored in would be over the 2015-17 natty winners. The rest are a push

Good question.

This Ohio State team definitely got hot at the right time.

I don't know that we can answer that question bc the playoff team is not really the team we saw all year.
Very true. They really found themselves in the playoffs. Mich loss forced them to swallow their pride and re-engage and refocus. The playoff home game gave them all the momentum, then played an ice cold #1 oregon team, and trounced them, momentum build even more...

The MSU x PSU trophy is like 4 feet tall of just randomness :dead: Like some shyt of a wookshop class project gone wrong. Back when PSU joined the B1G, the conference tried really hard to manufacture this as a rivalry for the 3:30PM slot after OSU/MI, but it never took off b/c there's no real animosity between the programs, and it was rare both teams were good at the same time. Made for some classic games tho.

Idek wtf the ole miss trophy is :mjlol:
Big 10 got some big dog big money programs but they've had it rough marketing/packaging them at times. SEC has had that shyt too (LSU vs any ex-Big 12 school for example), to be fair.

SEC has much more rivalries overall, and outside of Mich/OSU, they're better. The big ten rivalries that matter are OSU/MI and MSU/MI. Big par of this is the years when the B1G was the big 2 little 8 for like 2 decades, while the SEC had better programs top to bottom.

No one really cares about WI/Minny, or Iowa vs. whoever etc. Iowa's biggest rival is ISU and they're in the B12... MSU vs PSU is manufactured since there's no history pre-1994. OSU vs. PSU is an unofficial rivalry. Minny vs Mich was dope in like 1941 when Minny was winning titles, but Michigan has one like 60 of the last 62 games. No one gives a fukk about the west coast "rivalries" either, those are all soft.

Bias aside, it's always hard for me to evaluate that team and compare it to normal natty champions. To me, it felt more like the field was lowered and they were straight, rather than a 2019 LSU situation. The LSU fans been scurried off for months so I can make this post safely, but that team had a fukking gauntlet. Alabama, UGA, Florida, Texas, Auburn, they played some real dogs. For them to be elevated on top of THAT field, is incredible.

A gauntlet like that just doesn't exist in 2020. UGA wasn't very good. Florida was a 4 loss team. Kellen Mond A&M was arguably the second best team they played. OSU was ripped apart by covid and injuries. They had unequivocally the easiest path to a natty out of anyone I can recall
