After athletes compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, you may wonder if they get to stay in the Olympic Village and if they are allowed to stay for the closing ceremony on August 11.

The answer is complicated. But here’s what an Olympian had to say about it.

According to Dutch skateboarder Keet Oldenbeuving, athletes must leave the Olympic Village two days after competing. (They get those extra days to account for weather delays or other hiccups. After that, they need to vacate the premises.) Here’s Keet’s explanation of why:


That’s a very respectable reason to tell people they have to go. Of course, if athletes leave, they could miss out on closing ceremonies. However, per Keet, there is a way they can view them if they coordinate that with the Olympic Federation:
