4-11 against top ten teams…

they haven’t won a bowl game in like 13 seasons breh…He was gifted the 2012 bsc title appearance bc OSU was banned, and was embarrassed in big games nearly every time.

ND is only relevant bc of a tv deal and big (but aging) fan base, not bc of any actual success.

there’s a reason he was LSU’s like 3rd or 4th choice

not to mention BK letting that kid die in a windstorm during practice…

im just not a fan and I’ve never been overly impressed by him.

I’m with you, except the relevance part, they relevant and travel well, and you forget they are constantly putting big amounts of alumni out and have them in very relevant places.

They won like 10-11 games a year under him breh :wtf:

Before that they only had like 2 years of “success” with Weis & Quinn

And nothing i’ve seen says he was LSU’s 4th choice, Especially with that deal :usure:

I’ve heard several reports, and look at the news it was Jimbo then Lincoln then Kelly and Kelly was last resort because their AD was known and brought in for big game poaching. That’s why they didn’t get Napier because they felt you don’t offer 8 m’s to the coach of UL, i think that was a bit short sighted, but here we are. Lsu was looking for a big name that also looks good at the country club. Meanwhile BK was reaching out to Florida and usc and they both was like ehhhhh maybe

He wasn’t LSU’s 3rd/4th choice he was at the very top

yes he was, it was Jimbo, Lincoln then settled for him Texas AM baked the brinks truck up and that put the kibosh on that, and Lincoln took the usc job, and your ad promised a big name so they settled on Kelly

woke up with us on your mind, you love to see it

i learned a new phrase and will use it now on “Your Jimmy and Joes, can affect and limit your X’s &O’s”

but in the case above there is no game plan for talent doing what most can’t

Lincoln Riley was smokescreen the two sides barely communicated and it got confirmed when it was said Riley didn’t want to coach in the SEC

that wasn’t a smoke screen, that was a fire, that does not come out unless it’s got legs, now the extent of their communication no one can definitively say. And word was he didn’t like the Oklahoma compliance, and realized that Oklahoma was not ready for the initial jump, we can speculate til the cows come home, but bottom line Kelly was not the top choice that was settlement

i don’t think any one cares if he sinks or swims, what we not gon do is act like he’s not a deplorable man. I have not seen a single person on here or some of the social media, obviously not saying there isn’t, but dude was a massive a$$hole and rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, they are more glad he is gone than sad/angry to see him go

No you got your facts wrong it was smokescreen, Woodward knows how to play the media game he let that Riley smoke take a life of its own while he was going after his real target. Bruce Fieldman broke the Riley to USC and Kelly to LSU before anyone, and when the Riley to LSU smoke started he immediately shut it down

All that smoke was just Riley side leveraging a deal with USC, OU fans will tell you that Riley was talking to USC very early in the process, and he even said in his presser he never communicated with any other school. It’s not coincidence he was named USC the day after the OU season ended

LSU insider Jimmy Smith kept saying LSU wasn’t offering Riley

and Shea Dixon even said it was never even a thing

I can look back at what I shared from a trusted source telling me midweek (after all the Riley smoke really started) that fans were latching onto stuff that simply wasn't matching the moves being made behind the scenes. And I now believe that even more after speaking to a source on Sunday, which is the same one that said Lincoln wasn't in the spot on Woodward's list that many were presuming. I can tell you with some confidence that early on, LSU did reach out to Riley, but I also don't believe those talks lasted very long. I now absolutely believe that to be true. You are talking about two of the most respected AD's in America in Woodward and Joe Castiglione. Those guys aren't going to sit around going through some back-and-forth for weeks at a time. It's just not how things operate. Lincoln's statement at his press conference last night was short and to the point. And you can take him at his word on it. I don't believe this to be a situation where a coach says one thing at the podium only to turn and leave. I do not expect Riley to be the next head coach. And I don't believe there was any expectation of that from Woodward's end. This was one of those situations where the fanbase took some internet reports and ran with them as fact. I will continue to caution anyone on taking that approach in this search...

Ross Dellenger goin into detail on the coaching search
He wasn’t alone. Football staff members filtered in and out of the room, everyone glued to the television for very different reasons. Most of them had a vested interest in the game’s outcome. If the Cowboys beat the Sooners, they thought, it might open the door for Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley to replace Ed Orgeron at the helm.

Woodward didn’t hold such a view. Unbeknownst to many in Baton Rouge, he had already targeted his finalist for the job days earlier. While the city and LSU community buzzed about Riley, a small group of people knew the truth. If there were ever any discussions with Riley, they had ended. Riley was not interested in the job and had conveyed such to Oklahoma administrators, industry sources say.

Days before last weekend’s regular-season finale of games, Woodward headed into the final stretch of his six-week search, juggling communication between what appeared to be his final two candidates. He made one last call to close friend and A&M coach Jimbo Fisher to gauge his interest before entering more serious discussions with Trace Armstrong, the agent for Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly.

We had already basically made the deal in terms of … [Kelly] was going to come here,” says one prominent LSU official with knowledge of the final days of the search. “It was jaw-dropping to me to see the things [that were] written. It was completely wrong.”

Meanwhile, Woodward quietly walked out of Tiger Stadium after watching Oklahoma State’s game-winning defensive stand, saying little to anyone that night, aside from a line he repeated to dozens of people over the final week of his coaching search. “We’ve got someone,” sources recall him saying, “and you’re going to be happy about it.”
So it was down to Jimbo and Kelly and when he saw Jimbo wasn’t leaving he gave an offer out to Kelly

blue blood = living off past success unless you’ve won a title in the BCS or playoff era

ND on national tv every game means they’re relevant despite 30 years of underachievement…that was my point with my statement re: TV contract

Nebraska is a blue blood, they’d trade places with UGA or even Oregon in a heartbeat.

Texas is a blue blood and the most valuable CFB program…yet outside of 2003-2009 they’ve been pretty mediocre the last 35 years.

Y’all didn’t seem too sad to see BK walk…

BCS and playoff era have redefined successful programs and that’s pretty much a list of: Bama, OSU, LSU, and to a lesser extent Clemson (2-3 bad seasons away from Texas status) and now UGA….look how fast UF, Texas, miami, FSU fell off the elite list.

feel free to disagree that’s just the way I see it.

recruits don’t care About titles and success from before their parents were even born.
