Every game followed the same formula.
1. Get Tigers pitcher on the ropes in the 1st
2. Do nothing with it.
3. Get dominated by said pitcher for the rest of game.
This Tigers series also made me realize how ass Comerica park is :unimpressed:.

Been out of the loop a little bit.
Checking today's starters and I see that for the Yankees vs the Rays today, Rich Hill is starting.

Rich Hill.

RICH HILL????
This guy is still in the league?

:what:

And he's actually doing fairly well, too
:dwillhuh:

Rich Hill's first appearance in the Major Leagues was on June 15, 2005 in a relief appearance against the Marlins.

He faced Luis Castillo, Miguel Cabrera, Carlos Delgado, Mike Lowell, Paul LoDuca and Juan Encarnacion in that inning.

Man, I remember when the Yankees had Mike Lowell and thought he would be a superstar. He had a fine career though.

Speaking of Yankees prospects who never really lived up to the hype in the last 25-ish years:

Mike Lowell
Nick Johnson
Jesus Montero
Joba Chamberlain
Jose Tabata - not super hyped but people thought he could one day win a batting title.
Eric Duncan -- man, I read so much shyt about that guy.
Drew Henson

There haven't really been any pitching prospects for the Yankees to have been hyped over.
I mean, Joba was more of a media hype machine than actual scout hype.

Phil Hughes had a decent career and I really think he got off track when he hurt his groin vs Texas (I forget when it happened exactly)
Around the time that Hughes was getting his hype, there were thoughts that Ian Kennedy could be good, but not great. I think he was more of a college star than anything.

Then there was that year when they took Andrew Brackman. I think they drafted him knowing he would need TJ surgery. Or something like that. What a disaster that shyt was.
Brackman went 30th in 2007. High risk, high reward, I guess. Notable guys who went after Brackman include Todd Frazier, Travis d'Arnaud, and Josh Donaldson. All of which could have been great trade pieces or starters for them.
...Giancarlo Stanton went in the 2nd round to the Marlins in 2007, and Freddie Freeman went to ATL. So there's also that.

@Remote didn't Ivan Nova start there? He didn't get hyped up?
He did. But I don't recall him being hyped up much.
I mean, I never saw him as a great player. I saw him as a brown skinned Chien Ming Wang. Basically a guy who ...if he was on...could get you a bunch of ground balls. I didn't think he had the potential to be elite because he never missed many bats.

In 3 starts for Oakland, former Yankees prospect James Kaprielian is thrown 17.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, 3 earned runs and has struck out 19.

:lupe:

Kaprielian was traded to Oakland in 2017 for Sonny Gray.

:beli:

To be fair, I think the yankees just mis-used the fukk out of Gray but whatever.

Gray couldn't pitch in the stadium. He was great on the road though. I think after he left to Cincy, he complained that the Yankees made him throw too many sliders, even though he was, I think, throwing them at the same rate in Cincy and had a good year.

He was good in 2007. Happened to get hot in the postseason to help carry Boston to the title.
I could argue that David Ortiz was still more valuable even in that postseason, but Lowell was great.
