The division series always been tough , 2 100 win teams about to go home & several 100 win teams lost in the divisional series since ‘95
Rays gotta get a couple starters though. You can't bullpen your way through a full regular season and postseason. At some point, you need a couple horses or starters to eat at least 4-5 innings to get to the pen.

That Royals squad had the weakest starting pitching of any champion in recent memory but they still squeezed out 4-5 innings from most of their starters and the backend of their pen was other worldly.

They had Morton, glasnow & snell to do that last year(snell, morton gone glasnow injured) .this year they were starting rookies with no experience in bullpen games

Letting Morton go and trading Snell were puzzling moves for a team that's in contention mode now. Snell's contract runs through 2023 for a very reasonable amount too. Maybe the two pitchers they got will be monsters but at some point you have to play for now.

Glasnow's got elite talent but he's been injured a lot the past few years.

Morton I think just wanted to go somewhere else. Snell in hindsight doesnt look like a bad trade, but the Rays long term aren't setting up their young arms for success because they get no length outta them (if you believe in your starting pitcher, then you shouldn't be afraid to let your starter go through an order the third time around; to not do so is essentially capping the ceiling of your starter).

Pitchers need innings. Even a guy with an era in the low 4's is valuable if he pitches a ton of innings, since 6 innings, 3 earned is considered amazing now.

Instead of betting on 8-9 pitchers all being on point at once, they should focus on getting Baz and McClanahan and Patino the ability to throw 180-200 innings a year. Even if they develop arm trouble, so what? Every pitcher they've tried to coddle gets hurt anyway.

and as much as I hate that Boston won, let this be a lesson the Yankees learn: GET OFF TAMPA'S NUTS. The Yankees have become obsessed with a franchise that hasn't won a title. The Yankees have a good system with good prospects that they're afraid of developing. The Yankees should be obsessed with teams like the Brewers' pitching staff, Boston's managing-- Cora is a whiz kid, and in general, letting the young pitchers afford themselves an opportunity to fail.
