Cavs not even interviewing a guard because they have Sexton and Garland is stupid

they should be BPA in drafts for the next few years
Here’s the problem with that logic. They’re saturating themselves at a position that is very deep. If they’re drafting guys like Garland who they knew would need time, that’s an investment. If they have to reconsider that after a year (also after getting Sexton), then they’re very shortsighted and aren’t building towards anything. Either the players all fail or they’ll all wanna leave (and it puts the GM in a bad spot because it makes him look indecisive). It’s not like they didn’t know they’d be in this situation again (and trading for Drummond just narrows the field even more).

They’ve put themselves in a situation where they’re all in on a forward.

Let the cream rise to the top in practice and games

neither Garland or Sexton has shown enough to disregard that position if you see a player you like

There's no future in a team revolving around 3 point guards man.

They'd be dumb as hell to draft another one.

when the Cavs are any good again there’s no guarantee either Sexton or Garland will still be on the team

you don’t draft for need when you’re as bad and lack the talent the Cavs do

You need to have atleast some structure or skeleton in place to develop your players for when your team becomes relevant again, or else they may never be relevant. There's only one point guard in this draft that has a higher floor than Sexton and Garland and that's LaMelo, but he's not far and away a better prospect than Edwards or Wiseman so there's no reason to entertain a guard.

Take the player that will fit, so that you can establish roles for your team so when that time comes where you might need to do a flip, you'll be able to, and you won't discourage the team or make them feel like they are playing for a clueless franchise.

The problem is that the crop that doesn’t, winds up being a mark against you. You’d be guaranteeing that one, maybe even two top 10 picks doesn’t pan out and the GM has to answer to that.

also, as a GM, you have to have an eye on today and an eye on tomorrow. If Altman didn’t think he’d be in this position a year ago, then he’s not paying attention. If they wanted to go for a guard, fine, but then you have to move your other guards at a major asset loss. You can’t just throw top 10 picks away especially when you have the talent deficit they have. Ain’t no warranties or refund policies on lotto picks
