I believe the bigger mirage over the first month of the season was the overachieving offense. I don't think the poor pitching was something to expect to continue for the remainder of the season.
I had qualms about the two young outfielders both the Mets and Mets fans were so optimistic(and deemed so integral) about based off their respective 2018's. Nimmo just hasn't been the same all year, and Conforto has yet to become that .300 hitter we all desperately want him to be. I will say I'm less worried about Conforto as I am Nimmo. Cano has also been a disappointment so far.
I think the pitching, particularly the starters, will round into being steady and reliable. I'm confident enough that the Mets will have a chance to win the game in 3 out of 5 turns through the rotation, 4 on a good week. Of course that could change if Matz needs multiple starts off, so far no indication of that.
On to the dreaded offense...
Lowrie coming back soon could be huge, or at least have a real effect on the lineup. I was thinking about it and propose this lineup assuming Lowrie is back sometime this week. My lineup would be
Conforto
McNeil
Lowrie
Alonso
Cano
Ramos
Nimmo
Rosario
I like how it could virtually be thrown out there on a daily basis and give us the best chance to score some runs, then switch out guys if theres a lead in the later innings. However as was my opening point, run scoring is something I'm not too optimistic about when it comes to the 2019 Mets.
