LSU continues to battle for 2020 Houston (Tex.) North Shore running back Zachary Evans with the nation's best for the five-star prospect. The No. 1 running back in the nation has set his official visit for the weekend of LSU’s matchup with Auburn on Oct. 26, he told 247Sports’ Hank South.

It's his first official visit that he's scheduled at this point. In late May, the 5-11, 200-pound back released a top five of Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma and Ohio State, but that list isn't accurate any more. Texas and Texas A&M are now "most definitely" in the mix after visits in June to the two in-state programs.

“I ain’t going based off that top five no more,” Evans told 247Sports. “Couple teams in the top five, they filled up their class before I could get to it. I think OU filled up their RB class and I haven’t talked to Ohio State because of the Dead Period.”

Alabama, Georgia and Texas A&M will also get official visits with that trio being the group Evans had highlighted as having been recruiting him the hardest before the dead period. Georgia will host him this weekend for an unofficial visit.

LSU remains in the mix with the connections to the North Shore program with the likes of former Mustangs K'Lavon Chaisson and Eric Monroe playing for the Tigers now.

"Yes sir, BR! I just love it out there. My granny out there, she got family in Baton Rouge," Evans said. "It's kind of familiar territory. Going out there and just the culture and the connection North Shore has with LSU, the players we have sent there. One of my coaches went there. It's just a tradition. They were my first offer. They always got a home there."

Alabama holds a commitment from his teammate Damieon George, who Evans has said in the past that he would be a package deal with, but this time he just said, "we'll see." Running backs coach Charles Huff is the assistant Evans said he has the best relationship with, at this point.

It’s the process,” Evans said of UA. “Coming from a winning program and then seeing my teammate D going to another winning program, I’m happy for him. I feel like that’s a good opportunity for him. It’s a good community out there. I think they’ll help him grow as a man.”

As far as what school will land him? That's up in the air still, but the 247Sports Crystal Ball gives Alabama the edge over the likes of Georgia, Texas and Texas A&M in picks.

“Just wherever I can call home. You’re gonna like them all, all of them are gonna like you," Evans explained. "They’re gonna say the same thing. It’s all about where you feel comfortable at, where you feel like home is. Don’t feel pressured to make your decision early, don’t feel too pressured to make it late. I mean, just do it whenever you’re ready.”

Evans doesn't have a timetable on a decision and while he said he felt "pretty good" with Alabama and Georgia leaving the dead period, he doesn't have any leaders.

“I don’t really got a timetable. It’ll be anytime, just wherever I feel at home. I feel like it would be good to stay home because this is where I’m from, I can put on for my state. My mom is right there, she can just come. She don’t stay far from A&M anyway. That’s right in her back yard. She don’t care (where I go). She just wants me to go to school.”

Evans is rated the No. 1 running back and the No. 6 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He don’t sound pro Bama like Bama fans are claiming.

LSU-A&M battle, A&M a bigger threat than first thought.
Yea he doesn't sound enthusiastic about Bama atm but hopefully the Damieon George connection and getting to know our knew position coaches better over the next few months helps seal the deal. Hopefully he isn't swayed by the new sleeping cots in LSU's locker room other than that it should come down to Bama-A&M especially when both teams beat LSU this year

A&M will be 8-4 at best this year. We were his 1st offer, he was interested in LSU way b4 the sleeping cot and we have 2 of his former teammates recruiting him
