Memphis Grizzlies: 5 reasons Jaren Jackson Jr. was a bad pick

Grizzlies fans HATE this pick :mjlol:

Thank GOD we didn't draft this future bum :whew:

Not the biggest fan of him but the article is pretty harsh I gotta say. This first year with Memphis will probably be brutal, if he can consistently get minutes though I think he will slowly get to where he needs to be. A guy who faced similar criticism for his lack of production in college and struggled his first year is Skal Labissiere. He didn't get drafted as high as JJJ but everytime I see dude he looks more and more like the player he was projected to be out of high school.

Speaking of future bums, where's Shroeder going? :jbhmm:

Article was big facts, big facts though...if he struggled to stay on the court against players he was already physically more skilled than, how is he going to stay on the floor against more physical, more skilled and bigger athletes in the NBA?

Also he doesn't create for himself, has a funky shot and wasn't all that productive in college...I don't see his game translating at all

As for Schroeder we'll see what happens...the Hawks would like to trade him and Bazemore but it's gotta be a deal that makes sense. There's a real chance both players are on the roster when the season starts

JJJ got drafted for his defense as much as his offense, and in a place like Memphis thatll be appreciated.

If yall have Shroeder and Bazemore on the roster through the trade deadline thats damn near a failed season. But atleast you get to be possible big winners in the top of the loaded 2019 draft :ehh:

He averaged 3 fouls a game in 21 minutes, yea he averaged 3 blocks a game, but if he's constantly in foul trouble how will he stay on the court to maximize his impact? Of the top 5 picks he's the biggest potential bust because of that

I wouldn't go that far wit Schroeder and Bazemore...trading them would be a luxury, not a necessity, but I'd like both of them traded ASAP

foul trouble is a common issue with bigs.

For a lottery pick who couldn't stay on the floor? The biggest issue is he consistently committed dumb fouls and that limited his overall effectiveness. He's not developing his game sitting on the bench but that's where he'll be if he can't adjust to the speed and physicality of the NBA. I think he's gonna have a rough time adjusting to the league, I really do

that's an issue with the #1 pick 3 years ago, and he made the all-star team.

Development is key with most of these picks. Working on awareness and limiting fouls is very doable. It's like saying Trae Young will never stop taking stupid shots. Either you can work with him on it or you better pray those shots fall. It's all on the teams' development staff. Grizzlies turned Marc Gasol from a slow fat lumbering big into a three point shooting defensive player of the year. Memphis might be the best place for Jackson.

That #1 pick from 3 years ago (Karl Anthony Towns) was widely considered one of the top offensive prospects to come out of college in several years. His defensive issues were known coming into that draft. Jackson on the other hand is a defense first prospect who averages 3 fouls a game in 21 minutes a game and had stretches of whole games where he either didn't score, fouled out or was generally ineffective. That's not a concern for you? Jackson's bust potential is high...I've even heard the word "soft" used to describe him from the Hawks staff. Y'all are banking solely on upside because he surely didn't consistently show it on the court last season at MSU
