USC isn't looking for fire Helton anytime unless they are forced to. A few reasons
- If they fire him, who would is a big splash hire to satisfy the fan base? Most of them are off the market after last season. Jack Del Rio is always a name that comes up naturally, but the fanbase would be mixed about it. He would be a passion hire. Doubt Brohm would look at USC after turning down UT nor Campbell would be interested. Both of them seem to be similar to Peterson in prefering to stay out of the large market areas.
- Yes, USC has usually have the bags, but they are also caught up in the sexual abuse case that forced their President to step down. They are facing $400-500 million in settlements.
- USC isn't going to fire Helton for one bad year after winning the Rose Bowl and Pac 12 consecutively. Even though he shouldn't, he will get the pass of it being JT's freshman year chopping it up to growing pains. They will put the offensive woes on Tee Martin, fire him and as long as they make it to a bowl, clay will survive. Only way the seat heats up is the Trojans lose to both UCLA/ND, but even then, I still think they give him one more year.
Keep Clay
