Cristobal not being on the list automatically disqualifies it for me. And thats one mans opinion, my opinion is just as accurate as his
An Oregon recruiting expert said yesterday that he talked with insiders and Cristobal is on a whole nother level of recruiting than anything Oregon has ever seen.
Sounds like Taggart is changing the way Oregon recruits that started in the Chip Kelly era, something I never was a fan of. Oregon's policy has been to:
- Tell recruits that when they commit they want them to shut down their recruitment.
- Won't recruit players already committed to other teams.
- Will talk with recruits about interest, but won't offer until their senior year.
And that doesn't include the mishaps that have been coming out about not offering players who said they would commit if offered, rumors of not following through on traveling territories, recruits saying the social media/texting presence was weak, vetting players for extended periods while offers were withheld, telling recruits that getting an Oregon offer is hard - so wait and be patient.
Taggart is about being aggressive. His motto is you don't stop recruiting your commits until they sign and you don't stop recruiting kids you want until they sign with another school. He isn't afraid to offer early, word is their social media game is strong, and not afraid to hand offers out more freely.
I know the reason Chip started a lot was he didn't like the drama of recruiting and they also wanted "Oregon" guys. Honestly under Chip and Helf it seemed like just as many players transferred or got in trouble, so I am not sure keeping tighter reigns was a real benefit and instead limited who you could recruit.
One of the issues is that Eugene is very much a college town in terms of demographics, but not a college town in terms of mindset in letting the football program operate outside normal behavior. They are very critical of any mishap. This isn't like some towns that live and breathe football and reporters, law enforcement, and public look the other way when issues arrive because the football program is more important. Taggart will find out that is a major difference in Oregon vs. being in Florida.
We will see, 2018 is the start of Taggart's full class of his own. 2017 is already looking like a good job salvaging what the previous staff had left in his lap.
