Miami being semi relevant against is the first second and third reason that game moved units. Not sure why you mentioned UW in response to those ratings

Columbus unsurprisingly led local markets among the Cotton Bowl's record-setting ratings. As it turns out, the city's interest in college football extends beyond games featuring the beloved local team.

As originally pointed out by Reddit user Sctvman, Columbus has been the highest or second highest rated local market for the Fiesta (Penn State beat Washington, 35-28) and Orange (Wisconsin beat Miami, 34-24) bowls as well.

Miami hasn't even had a top 10 rated game all year. The Big10 championship game was higher rated than the ACC championship.

well, Miami vs ND was quite dominant ratings wise but I’ll take the L on it I don’t see any way this game shyts on the FSU-Michigan match up without Miami’s involvement though.
