Whole fan base is falling apart

Disgruntled University of Tennessee fans are taking to Twitter with a new hashtag - #EmptyNeyland - calling for the boycott of Saturday's homecoming football game if head coach Butch Jones isn't fired.

UT is 3-5 overall and 0-5 in the SEC after Saturday's loss at Kentucky, leaving Jones on one of the hottest seats in the country.

Fans on Twitter have not been shy about expressing their desires to see Jones and his staff gone.

Following Saturday's 29-26 loss to Kentucky, momentum picked up behind #EmptyNeyland, which is calling on fans to boycott Saturday's homecoming game against Southern Miss if Jones is not fired.

"If Butch Jones is the head coach Monday this is what Neyland needs to look like next Saturday night," tweeted one Twitter user, Connor Howard, along with a photo of an empty Neyland Stadium.

"#EmptyNeyland. If Butch is coach, and your butt is in a seat, you are accepting the administration's mediocrity," tweeted user Zane Winders.

"Fans, just stop going to the game," said Patrick Spinning. "Do not give this school anymore money until they show they're serious about winning. #EmptyNeyland."

A Twitter account dedicated to seeing Jones fired, @ButchMustGo, also tweeted out the hashtag along with #FireButch.

Some fans fought back against the hashtag, saying it would only hurt the players if people don't show up for Saturday's game. An alternative hashtag, #FillNeylandUp was even started as a protest.

"Fire Butch. Fire Currie. But don't #EmptyNeyland. The players do not deserve to be punished for admins actions. Remember these are kids," said Brad Parker.

Still, the overwhelming number of tweets called for the firing of Jones and a boycott of the game.

"If @UTCoachJones is still the coach next week we need to #EmptyNeyland to show 'em how we feel! We can support the kids from home! #Vols," tweeted a user named The Vol Colonel.

UT spokeswoman Karen Simsen said the university did not have a comment on the hashtag or whether there are plans to fire Jones.

But what you think about scUM? They say they byke since Peters is the qb now :patrice:
Naw. Just another year of being over rated. I mean who knows, maybe they do finally get at least one decent season. But until I see Harbaugh at least break Brady Hoke's first season record. It was a waste of 9 million a year.

Yeah he makes most of what he got Florida stupid not to go for him instead of another flash in pan guy they need someone with credibility and someone who can get the QB position to be elite
Yea Mullen has proven he knows how to find and develop QBs for his system. Fitzgerald's backup Keytaon Thompson, 6'5'' 230 lb freshman 4 star from New Orleans, is gonna be another Dak and they have another good one coming in the 2018 class.

Winning the East is good enough for Tennessee and South Carolina, not good enough for Florida.

Offense repeatedly ranked in the 100's

Never beat Bama or FSU or even was competitive against them, 1-2 vs LSU and 0-2 against Michigan

Something like 4-10 against ranked teams

A poorous record when teams scored 17 or more points against us

The program is in the same spot on the field now as we were when he was hired

He was interested in the Oregon job last year and asked his agent this year to look for a way out.

He didn't want to be here

AS A FAN, I agree with you. I wouldn't have kept McElwain either. He didn't look like a coach capable of winning a SEC or National championship. I'm sure most fans wish their administration had the balls the Florida one has and accepted nothing short of greatness.

All I'm saying is this action will not please prospective coaches. Just watch how all the former coaches in the media act to this firing today. On Saturday night Gene Chizik was visibly upset. The coaches look at this move by Florida as fundamentally unfair and not being completely truthful.

I'm just saying this move could backfire on Florida administration BIG TIME.

You really gonna try and puff your chest out after one good game against another overrated big 10 team?

:snoop: You Ohio State stans are so pathetic. Still acting like you somebody because you beat Alabama 3 years ago while conveniently forgetting the embarrassing performances that have come the last 3 years.

JT Barrett has no NFL future. He's just another Troy Smith.
