That would have been your coaches with full scholarships.....Pete Carroll left for the NFL.....That's the only thing we have to go by. It wasn't happening with those two coaches. Bama has been pretty much dominating college football during that period of time. What USC wish they could have done.
Of course I'm no Bama fan, so I don't want to see it, but it's the truth right now.

Nebraska 93-01 3 NC's lost 2 other NC games lowest finish in polls #19 1998 (Top 5 in final polls 6 seasons)

Ohio St lost to a 6 loss Florida and went undefeated the next season

Alabama lost to Utah and Oklahoma in Sugar Bowl and went on to win a NC and play in 4 team playoff following seasons

Florida lost to LLLLloyd the Loser his final game giving up 41 and turned in one of the most dominant seasons the following season

Oklahoma lost by 5 TD's vs Clemson it's bowl and came back and went to playoffs

Point i'm making is plenty of great teams lost games that didn't mean much to them before busting out the following year don't put too much stock into those type of bowl losses. You don't see anyone clamoring for Wisconsin to be ranked ahead of USC due to beating them in the Holiday Bowl.

I don't give much respect to the polls before the playoff era....We've been screwed by them before (undefeated, no chance to play for championship), so bias was an issue at times. It was based too much on people's feelings about a team.

going by championship appearances and wins, I'd go.......

I picked FSU in 2012,2013,2014 and 2016

2012 was a letdown team was loaded with NFL talent but just wasn't ready to make the jump coaches and players.

2013 nothing needs to be said

2014 I didn't expect everyone to checkout that much on defense and I underestimated the loss of KB1 and Bryan Stork at Center for the offense.

2016- I see us winning it all especially if the OL makes the jump I think our WR play improves as our QB play improves. Defense is stacked and I think this team is hungry unlike the 2014 squad I can say I'm confident in FSU making the playoffs why not FSU got talent out the ass and I think Francois will be a huge upgrade over Golson/SMag 2015. FSU and Alabama would be the 2 teams i'd put most confidence in as far as winning the NC with Clemson next in line if i'm talking money.
