Tennessee lost their best OL last week. We lost our best WR (M North) today (ACL).

The wind has been taken out of my sails, so to speak.

That being said, I still think that the key to this season is Tennessee's defense. We will find out right away whether or not Tennessee can hang this year. Week two - Oklahoma.

Oklahoma obviously has a great running game. Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia, and Alabama all have ELITE running backs and most are running behind great offensive line units. If OU puts up 150+ yards rushing, then it's going to be a long year. Honestly, I think that Tennessee is sound across the board on defense, with the exception of MLB, but they have players who can step up.

As far as defenses that we are facing goes, Oklahoma should provide a pretty good indicator of how we will stack up vs other talented defenses. If we don't move the ball well, or put up many points, then the Florida and Missouri games won't go too well either.

I think that Tennessee can win the SEC East, but speaking objectively, I think Georgia has a better team/chance. Also, have you seen Missouri's schedule?

That's at least a 9-3 season. They could easily go 10-2.

As far as Tennessee goes, we have the talent on offense. The line is thin, and that's a big problem in the SEC. The defense should be stout, but again, leaning on some younger guys to step up, and that's not always a guarantee.

Personally, I've always thought that this season would trend for 8-4. I could easily see Tennessee finishing 7-5 or 9-3.

Week One: Bowling Green in Nashville - win

Week Two: Oklahoma at home - split. like I said, this should be an early indicator of where the season is heading. The game is at home, and I think Vegas has Tennessee favored (wow). This is supposed to be the coming out party for the Butch Jones era, and most Tennessee fans think that this will be a repeat of the 2006 Cal game at home when everyone thought Tennessee was an afterthought and they absolutely destroyed a heavy Cal favorite in Neyland.

Week Three: Western Carolina at home - win

Week Four: at Florida - this is a MUST WIN for Tennessee and Florida, so there will be a lot at stake. If Tennessee loses this game, I think that the wheels will fall off on the season. It should be a significant game for both the 2015 team and Tennessee as a program - to finally get that Florida monkey off of their back. However, I've learned to never overlook Florida. They could try NOT to win the game and still win. I've seen it happen for a few years now.

Week Five: Arkansas at home - split. this will be the litmus test for two programs "on the rise." It has the potential to be a MONSTROUS game, because Arkansas could be undefeated, and Tennessee could be 4-0 or 3-1 at that point as well. Like I said, it all comes down to defending the run, because I think Arkansas isn't there completely on defense. They have a sick offensive line and a mean duo at RB, so if they turn this game into an arm wrestling match, I don't really like our chances. I think that the game being at home, and the potential for it to have national attention could bode well for Tennessee.

Week Six: Georgia at home - split. another game that would be significant to Butch Jones, the 2015 Vols, and the Tennessee program as a whole. The Vols have barely lost two years in a row to UGA, and it's time to get over the hump. Georgia has Alabama at home the week before, so there is the potential for UGA to come in beat up from a loss or riding too high from a win over Bama.

Week Seven: Bye Week - by this point, I think that Tennessee will be 4-2. I could see them being as high as 5-1, or as low as 3-3. If Tennessee is 2-4 then the season is probably already finished. 4-2 or better and they're still trending for a good season, I think. Especially if one of the losses is to OU, which wouldn't mess with Tennessee's shot at a trip to Atlanta. I'd rather lose to OU and Arky and beat UF and UGA. If that happens, then the Vols are in good shape.

Week Eight: at Alabama - loss. I think that most people would say that Tennessee doesn't stand a chance. I think that it's a "nothing to lose" game for the Vols, so I don't really care. I'm going to chalk it up as a loss, but it could be troublesome for Bama, who will be coming back from what I think will be a big game at A&M.

Week Nine: at Kentucky - win

Week Ten: South Carolina at home - should win. I get the impression that Spurrier is sick of Butch Jones. Beating the OBC three years in a row is no small feat, either. Hopefully by that point their season is in shambles and we can take advantage of that. If Cooper has a game this year against us like he did last year, then it's going to be a long day. I would say that the Vols should win, though.

Week Eleven: North Texas - win

Week Twelve: at Mizzou - split. I think that Mizzou could have 9 or 10 wins by the time that we travel to play them, and they'll be looking for another trip to Atlanta. It's going to be a tough game to win on the road. I think it will be a low scoring affair, and I think that Mizzou will be the favorite by the time the game comes around.

Week Thirteen: Vanderbilt at home - win

Best case scenario: 10-2
Worst case scenario: 6-6

7-9 wins should be the expectation, and I think 8-4 is a reasonable outcome. Sets up for 2016 to be the year when the back-to-back top 5 recruiting classes shine and bring Tennessee back to prominence.
