cops don't decrease crime, they record incidents of crime and try to apprehend suspects after crimes have been committed. addressing the root causes of crime is what decreases it.

I never said that they did. But people would still complain if he didn't increase police presence on the subways.

So y’all telling me the key is to let people ride for free… fare jumping is like the broken window theory. Without rules and consequences u will have anarchy.

Just like when they stop arresting people for petty shoplifting because it wasn’t worth it, now u got people just casually taking shyt from the stores in bags.

you know why stores have a policy of instructing employees not to physically stop shoplifters, no item(s) thats stolen will exceed the cost of attorney fees and possibly liability in a lawsuit for whatever reason. it's dollars and cents.

Yeah, it makes sense for the stores to tell their employees not to chase thieves because their guys are making somewhere around minimum wage with minimal training and no cuffs, no tazer, no gun ... unlike cops

I mean is not like that money could had been used to built better barriers that prevent people from jumping the gates or throwing people into the tracks, thats just silly and countries that have those things are dorks.

Look at the cost for this and remember that there are 472 stations in the city.

there is a lot of assumptions and fudging of numbers in this article to paint a worse picture for Adams and I’m not a fan of the guy . The underlying assumption is that every single arrest and summons is going to be paid for on overtime dollars and that simply is just not true.

I’m saying, $150 million versus $100k, which makes more sense?

you gonna claim a 149,900,000 lost as as solution? that’s like letting everyone in Manhattan ride for free for a day…shyt, a couple of days really

dumbest shyt I’ve ever heard.

He deserves to be given the bird every time someone sees him on the street

:russ:Taking time to respond to that foolishness

bro did you read the article? They’re pulling about $151 million number by saying that every single arrest and court summons the NYPD made is going to be paid for on overtime dollars which amounts to $4200. They had a 250% increase in fare jumping arrest and stops which mounted to 34,000 court summons and 1900 arrests. 34k+1.9k =35.9k * 4.2k=150m

The extra cops was to try and decrease serious crime. Not fare evasion.
Yeah it's this. Framing it as being about fare evasion is disingenuous.

People dont feel safe in the subway since covid. Just this past week, I personally saw a guy got on the train and randomly started punching someone. Thats not counted in stats. The problem is the police arent on the platforms or cars. Theyre usually upstairs.
