Not really a fan of The Inbetweeners, but if you don't like/understand British humour then that type of show isnt the show for you.

It's mostly the accent fam. shyt just annoys me. And yeah not a fan of the humor either.

@Grand Conde

Actually I do remember what you're talking about.

I said there is no real overseas equivalent of something like, let's say "Breaking Bad". Or "The Wire". Or hell, even "X-Files". The massive hit/critically acclaimed shows here generate interest overseas. Most of the time the same cannot be said the other way around, unless it's a remake. For example, "House of Cards".

That has nothing to do with the quality of the shows, but it is what it is.

I was just saying its not original US programming like the other shows you pointed out, didn't say it was a classic either.

That wasn't necessarily directed at you, even though I quoted you.

Even tho our present shows are shyt, I take great pride that most American tv shows have some sort of Britishness to them in one way or another. Cannot watch a US show without seeing a British actor in it these days.

You're right dude, the fact that you personally have never heard of a cult early 90s BBC political drama clearly disproves any idea that it could be a 'classic' program. :heh:

You've convinced me with your utterly worthless logic.

You know damn well what I'm talking about. Keep playing dumb though.

You come here, you see a "Breaking Bad" or "Boardwalk Empire" thread with 7,000 posts.

Who, anywhere, was talking about "House of Cards" prior to the remake? What British posters were arguing it's classic? Or even mentioning it at all, in any capacity? You can't even argue "well, it's old" because old TV shows get talked about all the time. Did you mention the show prior to the remake? Hell no. So what exactly are you arguing?

Now it's a classic though, out of the clear blue sky. FOH :heh:

I'd say our classic comedies>US's

And our nature docs are the best ever produced, David attenburgh da gawd>

But US for most other stuff, mainly sopranos, etc style dramas.

Plus anthony bourdain is "that dude".

bbc used to have some great dramas and sitcoms then as with the times it got worst. I don't dig the period dramas but the bbc brought out some top notch costume drama shows and lets not forget the amazing documentaries.

You have to take in to account that american networks pump ridiculous amounts of money in to their shows, amounts that the likes of the BBC could only dream of.

No British tv company has the money to make a Game of Thrones(though lets face it, that may as well be a british show) or a Boardwalk Empire.

Most of our dramas are absolute trash tbh, but again, lack of funding etc

Sherlock is pretty awesome though, and can stand up against anything on US tv imo.

Comedy wise we are extremely hit and miss. For every office there's 2/3 mrs browns boys/mirandas:why::why::why:

Same with US shows really, they produce so many shows they're bound to get it right now and again, and even when they do, they more often than not find a way to mess it up.:manny:

:comeon: It's one thing to say that BBC is better than CBS, NBC and FOX (it is.) But it is not seeing FX, AMC, HBO, Stars and Showtime.

I'd even add usa to that list too. Their shows are pretty much on par with a lot of bbc shows these days. I will say law and order uk, luther, and sherlock are great shows, there are more but those just popped up 1st.
