I always thought snitching was like if you sold drugs, got arrested and you ratted out your plug. That's snitching and honestly, disrespectful and dishonorable
But if you're a civilian bystander and in a drive by bullets come through your window and you saw who did it, and you tell, I never thought that was snitching

comes from the age of a kid until it translates into damn near everythingWhere did this practice originate from and why is it so deeply entrenched/connected to our culture?
I once thought it was glorified in rap songs to seem cool/gangster - 'Snitches dig ditches' 'Snitches get stitches'. Or that it was a Mob thing - 'They found Antonio in the river with a brick & chain around his leg'.
I was watching 48 Hours and of course most people won't cooperate with 5 on national television. I was so sad for the innocent victims nevertheless. I hoped, out of anger, that street justice would at least be served if no one was willing to cooperate
What are your thoughts about snitching/informants? Is it OK not to snitch even to the continued detriment of our community? Is murder the only snitch worthy crime? What about drugs, theft, gangs, etc.? Would you snitch or testify without monetary reward?
There are many innocent men doing hard time because they took the fall and wouldn't sing.
your parents will tell you "stop tattle telling" on your siblings... then tell you stick together and .. then throw in your friends to that stick together and don't tell... then throwin family and cousins and everyone else... plus tell you to keep things quiet from another parents or grandma or the police when they get pulled over... or "don't share family issues" etc etc etc
then it goes on from there...
military you keep it in house... your squad, your command, your branch, etc.... you don't snitch even if you illegally killing women and children and congress is asking
sports... don't tell the media.. don't snitch on your teammates... don't film your bro telling on himself about cheating on his girl... don't tell the owner that the star player is sniffing coke
cops... don't tell on each other... don't matter if we shooting nikkas or planting heroin... don't you dare cross that blue line... even if the bosses asking
corporations.. don't tell anything we talk about.. not about the nuclear waste we dump in the drinking water.. not the car that's gonna blow up and kill 400 people.. not the hookers we hire.. not the money we are stealing... not even if the investors ask about it

Minority/disenfranchised communities, usually of immigrants (Mexican, Italian, Irish, African etc) are usually marginalized, and see outsiders and esp. authorities as the enemy, and not understanding of their world. Therefore, they prefer to handle issues internally, and not cooperate with the outside authority figures. When you have generations of organized crime in these communities, the cycles just get deeper and harder to break. It's very us vs. them, and makes a lot of sense from their perspective......On the other hand, the police are known for their own "blue wall of silence", and the same principles are applied.
