nah, it did matter.
Many years ago it mattered. The college game was demonstrably different than the NFL game. Like beyond recognition.
The last decade its been different as NFL coaches borrow from college and HS programs start running really sophisticated offenses.
The game is different in the lower levels now, and Texas HS has spearheaded this change

It matters, but again, I said it's overrated. Especially now a days. Still, there are people who are still of the opinion that QB's should sit and learn even in today's game.
If Rodgers started playing in 2005, he'd have been a bust. His mechanics were horrible and he held the ball up high like all Tedford QBs.
He was literally horrible in the 2005 and 2006 pre-seasons. I really thought he was a bust and a wasted pick until a Thursday night game against Dallas when Favre got injured in 2007 showed me he can play in the NFL...
The guy sat for like 3 years. The Packers had that luxury cuz they had a HOF QB. But if they had a "meh" player ahead of Rodgers, there's no way he would have sat that long.
I think he would have been fine if he sat for maybe half the season. Smith, who was far less ready than Rodgers on a far worse team had a decent 2nd year.
Like I said...even back in the day...the whole sitting for 3 years shyt was overrated IMO. You shouldn't have to wait till season 4 to see if a guy can play.
