learning 'we shoulda done more live service' from DA:V was... literally like going to a lesson about the horrors of transatlantic slavery and deciding the lesson to be learned is that transport was a big issue and it all would work better if they just kept the slaves in Africa and brought the cotton to them.

EA just can not get right.
nay;
EA refuses to get right, because someone on their board thinks they know better than the rest of the industry and will strongarm and big-bank their way through all evidence otherwise.

Dragon age's problem was they wait a fukking DECADE to release a sequel.
And between the last game and the latest release a lot of shyt happened.

I think it's less than people want multiplayer/live service bullshyt and more the
leadership at EA seems to know fukk ALL about stewarding a franchise.

Which is fukking crazy because during that people CACs loved (and frankly still do love)
medieval fantasy CAC shyt.

They could've sold even more during the period GoT was more popular if they fukking knew what they
had :pachaha:

Does Dragon Age even have a huge following like that, how did the previous games do sales-wise?

I was intrigued by the previews but never got around to copping because my backlog is crazy atm

Would've never gave this a 2nd look though if it was a live-service game
Inquisition sold more in one week than VG did in 3 months.

And also... ME3 MP made an absurd amount of money. Andromeda's MP is the primary reason that game can't be called a flop either.

So a live service Bioware game really isn't a stretch as long as it doesn't implode under its own weight like Anthem. VG was slop on top of slop though.

After the even bigger disaster that was Anthem I continue to be shocked that EA suits still think they know better.
Anthem was worse online than it was on the books all things considered. And EA gets to talk a bit of shyt because their main contributions - flight, encounter design, and the market place - are what made the game stand out and make any kind of tail end money off the project.

Veilguard doesn't even have the population to make micro transactions worth the effort.

There are more haters than people who enjoy the games by now. Ppl still bytching for a game that came out 20 years ago. Like star wars fans, DA fans hate most of the IPs material.

Baulder’s Gate 3, Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnorak; Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 and DLC… these are blockbuster storytelling games, no? How did they perform in the industry?

Perhaps Veilguard’s financial performance highlights opportunities within the realm of blockbuster storytelling that EA missed to boat on.

While I agree with you, from a business perspective, every game you listed would be even more popular and generate insane revenue for years after release if 'live service" elements were implemented. If you're Andrew Wilson, why wouldn't you want to do that?
