NY will come bacc, just like LA did

LA fell off in the late 90s and took all the way until now to really come bacc.

NY last ran the game in the early 2000s, more recent than LA did before they came bacc.

Cycles. ATLs run is pretty much over anyway.

Nah it aint.

NY just so disconnected from itself. Radio don't have a person who is actually of the people playing records. That's why you still hear Red Cafe "Pretty Gang" on the radio. I was in the car with my chick the other night, she even knew it was some payola bullshyt. Ave is basically the 2nd coming of the Gravy, Red Cafe, Papoose nikkas who was trying to force there music on the public.

Can't it be said that industry politics is the reason why NY run lasted as long as it did

Nah its just that we were the only game in town at first. nikkas had a head start, but once other regions caught up, they been kicking our ass... nikkas up here scared to speak they mind now. Or too contrived... Joey comes off as weak because he's a shell of all the shyt he's "homaging". Ave as well... A$AP has great marketing and hustle (they from Harlem), but them nikkas dont make timeless music. It's alot of fluff from them to me. Most of them other groups are very niche and dont have that appeal that can get them in every club, sound of the city level. GS9 is doing a good job tho.

I agree with you as far as NYC old heads not having growth but, I don't agree with the youth being the ones to bring the change. In reality it's two things happening. Whoever plays the songs, are deciding what gets played based on money, and trying to be the first to have a song. Then its the people who own labels. They are the ones who will let what gets to the masses and what doesn't. Most of these people are older people. The truth is most of the music that is popular now, is not new in style, and has been done before. Its just people who decide what gets shown to the masses want a quick buck, so they choose artists who have music that they can make money off of.

The more "******ish" the artist is, the more love they get from young people because these artists personify that "i don't give a fukk about shyt" attitude. Most young people are not political, thinking about sex and being safe, not being drug addicts, etc. They just want to get fukked up, and fukk anything moving, and get money. They don't see the after effects of living like this, and don't want to hear it. Its called being young, and ignorant, we all went through it. The difference is now, none of the consequences are being spoken, and everything is about enjoying yourself, and do what you want. The artists who are pushed are the people who personify this mind state, and they happen to be young. This is really why the music sounds the way it does now, its easier to sell. I was watching the ASAP Rocky documentary, and he said he's proud to be a ******. Yet, I don't think he really knew what he was saying. I love ASAP Rocky, and his crew, but I understand why they are being pushed, they don't have anything to say besides "let's feel good", and they help keep that "******ish" image going. But, in 5 years his company will find a new ****** next year. That is the sad part about these young rappers who just rap the "fun life". Because they are a dime a dozen, once their record companies get their money recouped, they get rid of them, and find a new ******, because that is the name of the game. Keep bringing in new "talent", and keep robbing them since they just want to have fun. The longer they stay in the business the more they realize there is more to life then partying, and then they question whats happening, then want to rap about it but, by then they are kicked to the curb. The company found a new ****** to hype uo, and the "fans" think the other guy is "OLD", and played out.

I get what you're sayin'... NY rap is not gonna thrive in 2014 living off what it sounded like 20 years ago, just like the LA sound would not be poppin' right now if it was still tryin to recreate G-funk. I get it. I think the biggest issue is that the New York sound stopped changing around '04. There's no one particular NY sound... but it definitely had its own identity in times past. Nowadays, NY has a fair share of newer artists in the game, but it doesn't even seem like it cause you can't really tell they're from there. There's Nicki, French Montana, ASAP, a couple others- but everybody else from NY are either nikkas who've been around for 1000 years, or new dudes who are lost in time. That bein' said, it's not like a few years ago when damn near everyhing of relevance was coming from one region. You got dudes comin' from everywhere now- South, West, East, Midwest... it's been a while since it was like that.

Also when your production & beats (club music) became more important then what you're saying lyrically helped with the downfall. And that can be applied to all hip hop in general.

A lil' bit... I do agree it definitely made hip-hop less interesting and less competitive. It had its positive side too, but it definitely took the focus on lyrics away, to the point where nikkas can admit they can't rap and nobody blinks an eye to it.
