And the NBA has always had far more casual fans than the NFL.
This is facts, but what's interesting about this, is how there's a lot of casual NBA fans that are also betting on games/teams/players they don't even watch.

Literally boxscore watching and placing bets. Then they get pissed when a player fukks up their parlay.

1st game of the NBA season, the Bulls got SMOKED by OKC and my brother texts me like the Bulls losing to OKC is crazy

I'm like... :dahell:

Had to school him a bit because he had no idea wtf he was talking about

I understand why they report the numbers to advertisers but what's the application to us as fans.

It's not going to be a tier one watched sport ever. The world has changed

80s baby :flabbynsick: grew up watching religiously and playing stopped watching somewhere in my late teens but kept track of popular players and teams

Tried getting back in a few years but couldn't, things I've noticed

-more focus on single super star diva players than before
-more mega stars than mega killer teams
-alot more super high scoring games
-following previous point alot more super fast offense paced teams than slow methodical defense based teams

Just because more (white) people watch football it doesn’t mean people aren’t watching basketball. It just means football is more popular. NBA isn’t going anywhere so this is a non issue.
Nfl has more black people watching than the nba
The NBA's popularity has declined, compared to the glory days.
Nba has lost some cultural relevance

Boomers and Gen Xers don’t like the style of play.

The league is seen as too politically left.

The NBA also has limited reach on broadcast television since 2002-03.

And it’s star driven. Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals was the highest rated game since Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals.

People are watching, it just doesn’t have to be as much as those watching the NFL. And that’s ok. MLB and NHL don’t have to be the NFL either, both of which also having lower conventional ratings since Covid + the switch to streaming. (Lowest Stanley Cup, Lowest World Series, blah blah).

Coli has a weird obsession with pocket watching ratings with the NBA, probably because there’s more negro players so it triggers something in their subconscious to be more critical. Every game has to be record breaking viewership or it’s the end of days.

We know it’s not going anywhere and only becoming more lucrative with those tv/streaming deals despite the doom and gloom “fan” forecasting for the past 10-15+ years, so just leave the nba to “die” if you feel so inclined. It’s fine, the rest of us will continue watching it.

because football is gang shyt. No matter how many times Sidetalk catches Knicks fans acting goofy in Philly and NYC tryna restore that feeling, it just ain't that way in the NBA. Every weekend, families wake up, put on their colors, go out ready to eat and drink and hope like hell for 2 things; that their team wins and they catch an opp along the way.

NBA fans don't want parity because NBA fans legitimately think the goal is to put teams outta business and let only the same 6-7 squads eat. NBA fans will complain about the location of an all-star game as if they were gonna go. Too many fans are so used to tuning in every weekend and watching Jordan save society. I mean, there's a bunch of 35 and up people who are dying for the NBA to go back on NBC just so it can feel the way it did when they were younger... 30 years ago.

Nah don’t do that. This all started on here with NBA stans repeatedly declaring the death of the NFL back in 2014

The NBA dominates social media. They were very lenient with letting fans upload content online early on where as other leagues have been late to enable that.

NBA content is probably only 2nd to soccer in viewership on YouTube and other social media platforms
