Just came back from the movie/performance. Blood, Nas is too unsung IMO. just to go back to his mind frame and experience the build up, the era, his upbringing, etc :wow: Illmatic is timeless man. Nas is the GOAT, and yes, hip hop was so much iller in the 80's-90's when it was new and it was raw. I really miss regional sounds and rappers taking you into their world, now cats just take you to the club, the bedroom or to a drug :damn:

That said, I don't know that I'd go to the theater to see this, but if you can go to the screening/concert, it's worth your money.

On the downside, in true Nas fashion, the nikka definitely forgot some of the lyrics...I would give him a pass because of how much material he has, but I've seen Jay 6-7 times from 2000-2014 and he's never blanked out on a lyric :comeon:

Nate Santos
Nas may have gotten much of his inspiration for his classic debut album, Illmatic, from sidewalks and project windows in Queensbridge, but his musical DNA is rooted far from the streets of Queens, New York.

It’s no secret that Nas inherited his propensity for making music from his own father and “Bridging The Gap” collaborator Olu Dara Jones. A jazz musician by trade, Olu was born in Natchez, Mississippi. In the process of exploring the creation and impact of Nas’ debut album for his documentary Time Is Illmatic, director One9 visited the Southern town in order to trace the iconic rapper’s musical roots. While the film already debuted at the TriBeca Film Festival in April and hit select theaters this fall, a new trailer for the upcoming DVD release of the doc gives audiences a look at old home videos of Nas’ father’s family in Natchez. The home video footage is mixed in with aerial footage of the emcee’s Queensbridge stomping grounds and his uncle Ralph Jones singing.

Watch the trailer for the Time Is Illmatic DVD which will release on December 15.

I finally got to see it. :to:

It doesn't matter if you live in the biggest shyt hole, if you got two great parents who nature you, you can do anything.

On a side note, they need to fukking make a documentary like this on The Infamous. That album is arguably just as good as Illmatic or even better. I don't know why P and Hav don't celebrate that album. They need to. Nas doesn't show much love to IWW even though that was the album that really propelled him to the masses, not Illmatic.

That's because people can relate to Illmatic more than those other albums. A majority of people living in the hood aren't into selling drugs and busting guns.
