Even in engineering, I encountered a lot of West Africans. I was the only AA-DOS in my science based courses.

But we know the reason as to why this is the case.

And unfortunately, they're going to (and have already become) the model minority for Black Americans as a whole, used as a measuring stick for African-Americans who are descended from enslaved peoples.

Really, if one looks at the last three to four generations of upper-class AAs (check Our Kind of People), you'd find a microcosm similar to current Nigerian-American success, plus similarity in other ways.

Nigerians have a home country, which provides a lot of advantage AAs don't have, even if the majority of Nigeria is going through turmoil and growing pains.

I want to see both groups succeed, especially in conjunction, I just won't want to see one turned against the other, or used as political fodder.

Good but still indicates a glass ceiling. Their household income is $5k higher than the median but they're wayyyyyyy more educated with nearly a 3:1 advantage of Americans as a whole with grad degrees.

African and Asian immigrants work much harder but end up essentially in the same place or even a notch below whites (avg whites not those born with money).

That may be the best proof of white supremacy.

It all starts at home. From what I've seen most of those Nigerians that fit that mold come from two parent households and from an environment that ENCOURAGES book smarts and wealth building.

Not too many that will ridicule you for being a nerd and the women aren't chasing thugs. Also the parents seem to have a strong influence over their kids. I regularly hear them say their mom doesn't want to meet any women from them unless that woman is going to be his WIFE and they apply societal pressure on women and men to seek marriage. Not too much GMB over there. And they only respect their kids when they marry another Nigerian I believe (Nigerian brehs can chime in here I'm speaking as someone looking from the outside in)

I could be wrong but

Strong family unit
Respect for elders
Encouraging book smarts

Some Nigerian parents are bigger "tiger mom's" than Asian parents. Good recipe for success.

There was a point in time black america was like this but now that's eroded.

This shouldn't surprise anyone, non-European immigrant groups (excluding refugee groups like Salvadorans) always have a much higher average income, higher education rates, and are far more likely to be shown in higher education. See: Indian-Americans, Chinese-Americans, Ghanian-Americans, Trinidadian-Americans, Korean-Americans, etc.

Don't forget, a lot of surveys still count Nigerian-Americans as "African-Americans" skewing the data to show better results for African-Americans than the reality.
That's why nationality and differentiation between other Black groups in the US is important, we're all a part of the African Diaspora, but we have different needs and focuses than them.
I've seen from med school and law school classes that we're near outnumbered by non AA Black groups.

Thats what will happen

I’m not AA or Nigerian but have massive respect for both groups. I think natural competition and rivalry is natural cause they’re big groups full of talented people.

What doesnt need to happen is using them to confirm bias regarding percieved AA “inferiority”
