Jones already has the BJJ skills of a black belt.
He has the strength and athleticism that gives him room to make big mistakes. Finalizing his training to achieve the black belt level requires letting go of a lot of that power in exchange for technique. Its something i cant explain to someone who isnt on the levels bruh.

Wow this is so huge.

Having a black belt in BJJ doesn't mean what it used to. There was a time where being a black belt in BJJ was a big deal in MMA now everybody is reaching a black belt level that takes there career seriously. It's cool that he's putting in the effort to reach a goal, but I doubt it'll have any type of impact on him in the ring. It's not the 90s anymore where having a black belt put you apart from the rest of the field.

Having a Black Belt in BJJ + having a great wrestling background + being 6'4 + having an 84 inch reach DOES set you apart from the rest of the field though:sas2:

Says you. Clearly he wants more respect as a grappler. As he gets older having submission tools will be important. He can't be knocking guys out and taking punishment his entire career. Maybe he can but maybe he doesn't want to. The art is what you make it. Alot of guys are doing bjj so they don't get submitted by bjj and would rather keep it standing. Perhaps jon Wants to use bjj. I hope he submits gus. Legendary.

Thing with bjj, there really aren't any mcbjjblaclbelts. They are largely earned withe mat time. This is so huge that you look like a hater right now I'm sorry

He's the GOAT and he doesn't have a black belt in bjj :sas1:

He does have that USA Wrestling tho :sas2:
With a brown belt in brazillian jiujitsu

If he was just usa wrestling. He'd be getting rocked.

I'm not trying to take away from Jon getting his black belt that's a great accomplishment, but belt level doesn't matter in MMA anymore. Everybody trains in BJJ, so unless you're a Fabricio Werdum or Gilbert Durinho level black belt your ranking is insignificant.

Benson Henderson (Who's my second favorite fighter) got his black belt and then proceeded to get tapped out by Anthony Pettis, who was a blue belt at the time, a few months later.

It matters if you plan on actually using it.
