I'm not convinced mental illness truely exists.

There are ACTUAL physical things we can measure, such as actual disease...but I feel like a lot of stuff is the inability for people to meld with society or face depression as a result of poor life choices.

i cant speak on other mental illness..

but schizophrenia is a physical disease of the brain

I don't know if you know me or what my background is...but I am REALLY familiar with this content...to the point of having done grad work in it.

My point is that a lot of these images and results aren't as conclusive as they make it seem. They do wonders for cats like you who can just name drop the first thing you can google. Can you tell me how fMRI works or what you're actually seeing in that picture? Or what the criticisms are of those studies? And if their conclusions reach the aims of those stylized headlines?

And i'm not equating ALL forms of mental/brain malfunctions. Some things have more evidence behind them than others.

...and a vast number of other issues are clear and outright bullshyt.

All these nikkas having panic attacks and dealing with depression seriously have some other issues that we can talk about

Ignorant people stay out this thread please

Theres nothing ignorant about telling the dude who feels depressed about his life to get off line, hit the gym, study for his classes, and take risks when talking to random women.

"mental illness" is something we need to be honest about...not sheltering and treating everyone with a "woe is me" complex as if something is truly and legitimately wrong with them.

Watch.

All the stories in here will be about: ADD, ADHD, generic "depression," Anxiety, and stress.

Nothing about brain tumors, congenital nerve diseases, or anything remotely un-related to one's socialization.

The human mind was relatively unchanged for thousands of years UP UNTIL about 200 years ago.

The world is more complex and we're still grasping how to come to terms with our place in society, what it means to be ourselves, and how we can still maintain a sense of value.

I'm fairly skeptical of a lot of these claims.

About 70% of the mental health stories I hear about online seem like they're a result of one's inability to cope with the demands of society or one's inability to reconcile how their lives have deviated from what they expect.

This Napolean kid is one of the few on this site I'm beyond convinced suffers from a series of mental illnesses. From his unnatural obsession with J. Cole, to the very way he types, there's no doubt in my mind he's presently in the prodromal stage of a severe first episode. (that, of course, is if he hasn't already gotten a few under his belt). You're a special one, dude. Good chance you partly inspired this thread.

You can't just say mental illnesses don't exist. There are a lot of people who have been traumatized by whatever happened in their lives and mentally cannot deal with it and struggle through life every day because of it.
