Ten things probably didn’t know about Gang Starr’s ‘Hard to Earn’

-Guru was wasted recording ‘ALONGWAYTOGO’; which was originally recorded for the movie ‘Poetic Justice’.

-‘Code of the Streets’ was produced originally for a TV documentary about stealing cars.

-It’s Nas voice on Large Professor’s ‘Ijuswannachill’ saying,”Yo, yo, yo Preem, what up baby pa.”

-Preeme favor’s ‘I’m The Man’ to ‘Speak Ya Clout’.

-WC was in the studio when Gang Starr and Nice & Smooth recorded ‘DWYCK’.

-Guru produced ‘Suckas Need Bodyguards’ & ‘F.A.LA.’.

- The beach scene from the ‘Mass Appeal’ video was shot in Jacob Riis Park in Far Rockawa.

-Guru & Primo got into a fist fight before they recorded ‘Now You’re Mine’.

-‘Comin for Datazz’ was supposed to be ‘DWYCK Pt 2’.

-Daniel Hastings shot the covers for Hard to Earn, The Sun Rises in the East, Wrath of the Math, Livin’ Proof, Moment of Truth, and The Ownerz.

Screwston (Houston),Texas..KCFWH!
You got no clout here, and I doubt there
is anyway that you can stop the beat down
You better play the background, and sit back down
Chumps like you, I gotta keep 'em in line
So prepare to suffer boy, cause now you're mine-GURU

Is this considered a classic hip hop album based on consensus?

It's phenomenal!

This is my fave album of theirs, before this they were good but this one stepped it up a notch IMO and was a bit "Darker" then the earlier albums. The production was stepped up on this one too, Premo absolutely blacked out on this album (Around this whole time with Jeru and Group Home as well) so he was on his shyt in the mid 90s.

Word.

I heard ppl not like the Group Home album. Even Preemo said one rapper quit and became a boxer.

Mop said Preem gave them the best beats.

From all the joints I heard it was great.

Is that Group home album considered a classic?

I never heard it front to back but heard several joints a tonne.

I'm studying certain albums now. Literally typing notes out.
