I'm from the Dominican Republic and they actually teach us all this shyt in school along with the beginning of the transatlantic slave trade, but there is so much fukking innate racism in this country that no one sees the Spaniards as the bad guys but more like the founders of this society and our motherland, it's fukking disgusting.

They also ignore the Haitian revolution and jump straight to the invasion of the DR and how they wanted to change our official language and crap like that, no mention of how they freed the slaves in this side of the island, I'm half black so I will always be grateful to the people of Haiti for grating my ancestors their freedom.

Of course. Just saying that just because we read something that is from a source deemed credible doesn't mean it is true. Many history books in Eastern Europe were changed during the 1950's to condition children to think of its past a different way or think that their country was a completely different place than it truly was. At least that's what "they" say. There is always an agenda with text and information, I try to use my life as a scope for truth opposed to what people tell me to believe via a book or teachings via history.
no doubt, my answer was more directed toward negro the magnificent saying it comes from a crackpot website

I was - repped because someone thought I had false info but what I posted I actually learned in a college lecture, the other stuff comes from a book written by a PhD. I'm not saying nobody in here is lying but...

This the guy with a national holiday....so disrespectful. The first thing you think about when you see a new group of people is subjugating them.

What did you honestly expect Columbus to think when he came upon contact with the Indians? Europe at the time was the pinnacle of human civilization and the Americas were uncivilized and savage. You don't leave a continent filled with developed cities, technology, advanced learning, etc and come upon backwards people and think they are your equal. Sorry but Columbus never took multiculturalism and sensitivity training classes back them. Judging him by today's standards is asinine.

The fact of the matter is that Columbus was one of the most important people in human history. He helped prove that the world wasn't flat and he brought the shining light of western civilization to the Americas.

in school, well here in America more then anything should teach us that Columbus ARRIVED here... he didnt discover shyt, people already lived here.

If you find something that you didn't know existed that is making a discovery you idiot. No one has ever said that people weren't living in the Americas.

An interesting perspective, but ur troll attempt became obvious when i read he helped prove the world wasnt flat. People been knew that. Ancient Egyptians knew this just by looking at the sun and moons roundness. Earth being round is evidenced by a ship appearing to sink as it sails across the curvature. and even before Galileo proved it with scientific evidence, the Quran says that earth is round. Why would a Catholic King allow Columbus to prove the earth is round and they killed Galileo for saying the earth is round?

Children dont think of the word discovery that way and most teachers say he was the first, a rare few remain neutral or give the whole truth.

The hospitality and general friendliness of the Native Americans is something to behold. They willingly gave so much to the Spaniards, and made trades we today would consider lopsided. They cooked for the Spaniards, helped them learn the land/rivers, etc etc etc. Yet the first thing that pops into Columbus' mind is "wow, we could enslave these people." Dude was a sociopath end of story.
.

LOL @ this revisionist, feel good bullshyt. Maybe you should read up on the history of Aztecs and the Incas before you talk about how peaceful and friendly Native Americans were. They were some of the most violent groups of people in human history.

I am sorry but there is nothing dumber than the politically correct depiction of natives as a bunch of hippies running around the forest in a peaceful utopia.

All that is true that is why I said Columbus HELPED PROVE IT.

if the Aztecs and Incas were some of the most violent groups, what do you call the Europeans that brought genocide upon them?

aztecs did have mad sacrifices though, thats why they were so easy to conquer, all the other tribes hated them.

and the Europeans hated all of them without distinction, it doesn't matter what the natives had going on amongst themselves, an external force (Europeans) reduced ALL of their numbers and changed ALL of their ways of life for the worst.
