I might do a weekly thing in thread going over the symbolism in music videos.

It’s amusing how much goes over people’s heads..your favorite artists are telling you who they really are in their videos. Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, etc are masterful with planting symbols in their videos.

Lady Gaga as soon as she really started to come up in the game, seemed like she was not even trying to hide it - that “Bad Romance” and “Love Game” videos; Madonna “Justify my love”, Rihanna “Umbrella” - as I started looking at these types of vids with a different set of eyes after one of my friends started bringing up details, it’s so clear

Naw, she’s talking about the black man’s semen and it’s power over her.

This period in Mariah’s career veered way off from her earlier records which were more pop oriented..Mariah herself said she wanted to move her music more to the urban side, more R&B and Hip Hop tuned. She was in the process of getting out from Tommy Mottolla, who was...an interesting figure in the industry. Bone Thugs, Missy Elliot, Puff Daddy, The Lox, Jay Z, etc..she was doing music with these heavy hitters and getting knocked down by prominent black dudes in the industry..notably Ginuwine, Diddy, Jay Z, RL from Next, etc..She went into her “ho” phase during the mid to late 90s after she got away from Motolla. Honey is a tribute song to getting dug out by the black men mentioned above and more and her loving it.

Everyone took it as her singing about how love feels and all that bullshyt. Nah, she’s singing about her sexual liberation by black men after she got away from that white dude, Tommy Motolla.

Mariah went stir crazy back then..p*ssy was definitely up for grabs but Tommy Motolla damn near destroyed her career after that shyt where she embarrassed him.That whole down period from 1999 to 2005 was because homeboy put the clamps on her after the divorce. LA Reid is the nikka who really saved her career, he’s one of the few dudes in the industry that has enough clout to match up with Motolla, that’s the only reason that Emancipation album got the legs it needed to be a hit.

As far as J.Lo..you don’t go from being a fly girl to doing movies and songs damn near overnight. Keenan and Damon Wayans were the cutouts for her to get out on and she had to play the game HARD before she ever got close to Diddy. Keenan’s rep in the industry is severely underrated..dudes responsible for Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx and J.Lo getting on and becoming megastars.
