I'm not against raising the minimum wage, but I'll never understand that being the ceiling. For the most part those that have taken steps beyond their high school education to learn something; whether it's a college degree, a trade, certifications, etc, make more than that. And I get that people can be overall underpaid in their industry, but still make more than the minimum.
Meh. Minimum ain't shyt. The system never been fair or perfect. Nobody thinks an unskilled worker should be making the same as whatever entry level skilled worker makes. This is where skill and education comes into play. People should be able to make or have a liveable wage. Even the kids that work there. You worked for yours but that don't mean people that didn't reach your level should be hung out to draw. Poverty is a real issue in this country. They better print it up or make more jobs here.
I don’t disagree with you but $15/hr still isn’t enough, but when is enough enough? At what rate do you make the distinction between skilled vs unskilled? What exactly is a livable wage? It’s too much variance.
I start from the bottom. There is no reason a mother of 2 should be living in a damn motel. You can't control actions and who gets pregnant and who doesn't. But there is reason a single mother of two should be leaving her kids in a motel to work at a pizza shop. The "best" country in the world shouldn't have unobtainable boundaries. You don't need to be rich but the opposite shouldn't be poor and live on the streets. This country has enough wealth. People just choose to be greedy. I've never been homeless but that shyt is unnecessary. This country has enough space, energy and money. People shouldn't have to sleep outside or where there heads rest. That shyt bogus. Capitalism trumps EVERYTHING now.
It bothers me
I get what you're saying, but again too much variance. There are some sad cases where capitalism sucks and other cases where people fukked up the bag, maybe due to drugs or whatever else.
I know single mothers with two or more children and have never lived in a motel. They started a minimum wage, but went to school got degrees to find jobs that paid more. My friend used to bring her baby to class with her in the evenings. Some qualified for child care vouchers to subsidize the cost of care.
I do feel wealth should be spread in some ways and again, not opposed to raising the minimum wage, but I also feel people need to put some sort of effort into obtaining skills that pay more.
