Watching a deep dive video on Tommy not having a job and its legit amazing....Tommy the actual actor had a legit problem with the running gag because he didn't like the gag of a black man not having a job when at the time of the shows running black male unemployment was at an all time high and he didn't like sending the message of yet another brother with no job. The reason they kept putting in the job joke was to punish him for always complaining about not having his job detailed behind the scenes
But in a interview with Tisha Campbell she says that we hear about his job in episode 7 season 1 when Gina had to fight Martin's teacher who was trying to smash. Tommy mentions having to go to do some counseling at the boys and girls club and Tisha says that was supposed to be his actual job all along, but when season 2 came around, during a group think Tommy once again mentioned a possibility of his characters job coming up and Martin legit said "what the hell, Tommy ain't got no job do he?" and the producers knew right then and there that would be the ongoing joke.
