to aka how can I use you. Be wanting to come to America and be on 90 day fiancée and shyt Trust me I used my education/Americaness as a shield/weapon in Colombia and DR and it worked VERY good. For example I would give a Black Colombian or Haitian large amounts of bills in public in front of the locals. A Colombian man was selling hats but I didnt buy a hat instead I just gave em money in front of everyone while counting my bills in public(I know it can be risky). But on the OTHER hand... I would find me a pale skinned Colombian or Dominican and have them clean my shoes or do simple tasks. Or I would eat at the most expensive restaurant(for them) or... Walk around the town with THEIR standard of beauty while I would treat their non-standard of beauties(i.e the darker skinned women ) GOOD. Also I would reply first in Spanish asking them if they speak English. They would get nervous because they all wanna know English and English is considered apart of the ELITE. and fall back on insecurities. Its simple tricks like that. I faced no discrimination in DR as a dark skinned dude because they all wanted to be my friend based off my status same in Colombia. In Colombia some of them thought I was a rapper. Again simple tricks like that. They also become VERY humbled if you have a nice hotel or airbnb and they have to clean it.

I had the same experience. Blackness went away and I didn’t experience racism because English is my language, I’m foreign, and had money compared to them cause I was actually pretty broke and left my job (mid 2000s). Suddenly being darker, having curly or nappy hair ain’t matter. They more race obsessed than us. AA can have lite brites, darker folks in the same family with no problem but for Latinos it’s an obsession. It’s an obsession with they skin, hair, facial features. You can’t imagine how much they hate indigenous folks. They might be pale skinned but it’ll show up in they eyes.
