The burns were much worse than reported back then.

He was horribly disfigured by 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his head, face and upper portion of his chest. You have to remember that in '84, Thriller was still poppin' and he had a major tour with his brothers taking place in June so there was heavy financial interests involved here.. Look at MJ on any of those videos during the Victory Tour.. He has not one damn scar on his head, face, etc.
