There has always been a debate on who created the original drum beat for 777-9311 which is still to this day considered one of the most complicated drum sets to ever perform.

In case you didn't know Prince basically played the entire instrumental part for the Time's "What Time is it" album as well as performed all the background vocals. Morris day, who was widely known as the lead singer was always a well established and talented drummer who created all of the drum sets for this album. However the debate has always been whether Prince used a drum machine to create this song set or if Morris created it and taught it to Jellybean Johnson.

One of MJs most talked about musical talents was the ability to create specific different parts to a song completely in his head, which included all harmonies, chords and key changes if necessary. Even if not able to write down the exact key he could note for note instruct you what note needs to be played, for how long and what harmony needed to accompany it.
