No. I don't know why they are making a sequel lol

Coming to America? Classic
The Color Purple? Classic.
Belly? Classic.

ATL? No.
It's about the same level as Stomp The Yard to me.
That's just a step up from a Madea movie.

Hood classic, maybe?

I agree, it aint no level of Coming To America or The Color Purple but if someone said it's on the same wavelength as Belly in terms of acting, I wouldn't argue that.

But I don't know why they making a sequel either. Seems corny.

I wouldn't even say it's on the same level as Belly. Belly was NONstop suspense and drama with the most beautiful cinematography.
I could see ATL being compared to The Player's Club or Friday but it doesn't have as many quotables as those two. So I'd still say those are better.

When I think of the character development also, ATL is the weakest of those I named. Belly had diverse complex characters. They could've even did a spin off movie based on Ox or Chiquita.

Hype could've done a spin off movie on Chiquita being this enigmatic assassin and I think it would've been epic. Just how her character was developed and we still didn't know much about her. She literally had no speaking role and was still more intriguing than every character in ATL.

I feel like ATL was a regular movie with a typical cast. They built a story around T.I. because he was the hottest rapper out at that time aside from like Wayne and Luda. I was annoyed by Lauren London in the movie and don't think she's that good of an actress. They gave her the role because she was cute and light skinned. They used Buffie The Body and Lashontae Heckard because they were the top video vixens at the time. They knew hip hop heads were going to see it at that time because of T.I., Big Boi, Buffie, Lashontae. This is when King Magazine and XXL was reigning. Whyte Chocolate even had a cameo in the movie and this was after her "Tip Drill" hype.

With Belly, EVERYONE did their part. Even the characters you didn't like. Everyone loved Keisha. Everyone loved X. Loved Nas. Loved Kiana (Vita). Loved Chiquita. Loved Ox. Loved Tyrin Turner's character. Loved Method man. It was a REAL storyline. The characters were intriguing. With ATL I didn't really give a shyt about the characters lives.

Friday and The Players Club's characters are far more memorable and celebrated as well.
