Got to sit 2nd row at guest speaker event with Susan Burton today. She shared her background losing a son, being a prisoner, and importantly becoming a restorative justice activist and spoke out against mass incarceration as well as systemic discrimination in the criminal justice system.
I wanted to ask about her feelings towards the for-profit prison system and the fact prisons are traded as public corporations. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to but I think that's a glossed over aspect of our corrupt system and eliminating a profit mechanism for prisons is the first major step towards getting rid of discrimination.
