Grand Slam México ticket sales started and they are going pretty well. So far they only opened up the lower bowl and there's only 1k tickets left.

This show about to be can't miss :wow:
CMLL has been on fire for a while now, their fans love top AEW talent, and they have a really loyal ticket buying audience.

When the BCC first went there to Arena Mexico last year it was a near instant sellout.

And they HEAVILY run four arenas because they own all four of them, which includes Arena Mexico. I don’t know if they exclusively run those four, but they run shows at them same four arenas multiple times a month. And yet they still regularly sell out or nearly sell out shows at them. That type of scheduling would never work in the USA.

It’s an audience that very much likes a wrestling product that is presented in the AEW/NJPW way. That’s not to say they don’t like a WWE style wrestling product, but the attendances say they really like what they are getting now out of CMLL.

He rectified that info. That ticket price is for "VIP experience" with Meet & Greets and other perks. Normal ringside tickets are in the range of big CMLL/AAA shows.
Oh okay that makes more sense, those VIP tickets to big AEW shows are really expensive but always sell really well. That’s by far the biggest reason why Y’All In was a million dollar gate before the presale was even finished.

All of this is true but you are also leaving out a big part of why CMLL has been able to bounce back: a lot of the success is because they aim their business for tourist. A good number of ticket sales come from bundles or tourism options.

This Dynamite show is probably an exception and it's clear that mexican fans WANT to watch that show and see a crossover with AEW. But let's not get things twisted either, an important % of normal CMLL shows have people that don't know lucha and just wants to live the experience (like going to a cheap Broadway play) so their focus is curiosity more than loyalty.

Selling your product as you would the circus or a carnival is great because that's basically what pro wrestling is. A traveling circus. Lucha Libre is embedded in the culture in Mexico, it's like what baseball used to be to America. CMLL is that culture. CMLL also has a long running partnership with NJPW so the fans now have learned to appreciate strong style. That's where AEW comes in, AEW has a lot of wrestlers with "workrate" and there are some performers who also fit into the "showmanship/entertainment" aspect that they enjoy so much.

It sounds like this partnership is a success

Luchablog has says a lot of CMLL talent dream about working a New Japan show and they’ll wear a patch on their gear for years after making just one New Japan appearance to recognize working it. Of course WWE is also a big dream for them too but NJPW is held in high regard.

For the most part AEW-CMLL has been a success. CMLL talent have been getting a ton of opportunities in ROH too.

They hit a bit of a speed bump when some AEW talent came over and stunk it up - like Jericho and Deonna.

But CMLL really wanted Jericho, the match just ended up being trash. But they should have known Jericho is washed. So they only have themselves to blame there. Got the match you wanted, don’t get upset when any rationale human being could have told you he sucks.

Deonna stunk it up so bad in her one match against La Catalina that they basically said she wasn’t welcome back :mjlol:

I'm guessing 'Grand Slam' will be some combination of Omega, Ospreay, Mercedes having matches and some of their in-house luchadores

I imagine Omega or Ospreay main events against Místico.

I can see them running back Toni Storm vs. La Catalina too. Toni lost to her when she went on her break from AEW after dropping the title to Mariah. Obviously Toni will go over in the rematch.

AEW talent also going to be in other CMLL shows that week so I imagine most names with a pulse on the men’s side at least will work one of the shows.
