Oh, I have no idea. I just figured the whole "I need to win a world title one last time" angle would ultimately end up with JJ capturing the ROH "World" title rather than the AEW World title
Would’ve loved to see him do it as a heel in TNA.

Definitely not happening now with the WWE partnership though.

I do remember Roddy and B.Alvarez saying that Mortos was a lawyer in real life though.

If thats the case then the mask makes sense.

Being signed to one of the top two wrestling companies in the world is cool regardless.

Im just saying there’s no money in Mortos just like there was no money in El Generico and the lil mf appears to have a similar look to the biggest star in the business.

As long as he’s not like that fake Rock TNA had in the early 2000s then I think it’s a bigger upside for him without the dumb gimmick. :yeshrug:

I dunno, there's a whole lot of Samoans with tattooed pecs to the dollar right now. I don't tend to think of things in terms of money tbh, but I do appreciate a bit more breadth to the representation of Lucha Libre/wrestling in general.

Maybe it's not the sort of reimagined, optimised product refactoring that a self-respecting unit of profit creation would demand, but those sorts of theatrical gimmicks have always existed yet the only Lucha Libre most American fans have been shown outside of four glorious years is watered down to "Plucky luchador in a mask" being the only character - i.e. the whole reason for El Generico's existence.

Beast Mortos, Luchasaurus, Aerostar, Drago... none of them would get past creative in 2025 WWE, but they exist, live crowds love them and AEW let's us see stuff like that. That's one of the big reasons I like it being around.

Mortos is actually a licensed lawyer. However, I don’t know if he was ever actually a practicing lawyer in Mexico though.

That might stem from what may or may not be a joke story Matt Taven made up. Or at least if it’s a real story then Taven used some creative licensing to make it fit for the occasion.

His real name isn’t public information, and his gimmick name obviously isn’t tied to his potential law career, so no way to really corroborate if he’s a practicing lawyer or not.

I wish more of the traditional llave luchadors were on American TV. You get Hechicero a few times a year and maybe a once a year appearance out of Angelico in AEW. That’s about it.

Not in AEW though. There's a ton of masked lucha guys not even counting the ones they bring in from CMLL and AAA.

I'm just down for it all :dame:

I've been watching wrestling for 36 years and so any sort of variety is welcome at this point. I want to see all the different styles, all the different approaches... gimme the comedy, the hardcore violent shyt, shoot style, acrobatic dancing shyt, technical, martial arts, theatrical shyt... iont care if anyone else likes it either if I'm finding something fun, I'd pop if Max Caster lost an open challenge in a squash to Yoshihiko on Dynamite and give zero fukks about a rating :russ:

West where the Sunsets
JJ coulda been used to push Hangman/MJF, but the buildup was fine and no one is gonna talk about whether or not JJ/MJF would have hit a year from now. Either way, it worked for the better because the marks would be bytching about old ass JJ taking up time. :russell:

You're arguing against what you just said but ok.

There are a lot of tattooed Samoans to the dollar in mainstream wrestling generally.

There are not in AEW which makes it a nice alternative.

Not quite sure where you can get confused here, but daps. I have no issue with you.
