This bill strengthens workers' rights to join unions and collectively bargain for better conditions at work. It aims to make it easier for workers to organize, protect them from unfair treatment, and ensure unions can effectively represent their members. It does this by:
- Expanding who is protected under labor laws, including more people as "employees" who can benefit from these protections.
- Allowing unions to support strikes organized by other unions, and stopping employers from suing unions for doing so.
- Requiring all workers in a union-represented group to help pay for the union's work, even if state law says otherwise.
- Protecting workers who go on strike by banning employers from replacing them or treating them unfairly because of their participation.
- Stopping employers from forcing workers to attend meetings that discourage union membership and from making workers give up their right to join group lawsuits.
- Providing whistleblower protections to employees who report violations of labor laws.
- Making union voting easier by allowing remote voting and providing stronger penalties against employers who break labor laws.
Union busting refers to activities, strategies, or tactics used by employers, consultants, or other parties to prevent or disrupt the formation of a union or to weaken or dismantle an existing union within a workplace. The goal of union busting is often to maintain control over the workforce, reduce labor costs, and avoid the collective bargaining process that unions facilitate, which typically results in better wages, benefits, and working conditions for employees.
We're in a Recession things will get worse before they get better. Jobs report this week should be telling.
The vast majority of these layoffs are in the tech industry, which had an extreme level of bloat because of their covid hiring spree. It is not a bad time to be an electrician, everyone I know is getting significant increases in pay because the market is so competitive for our services. It was bound to happen with Tech just like college degrees becoming devalued. Too many people concentrated in the same field will eventually lead to layoffs/paycuts, has happened to most fields before and it's they turn now.We literally arent in a recession
