The 2nd game is twice as long as the first game and people were already complaining about those 9 episodes feeling rushed.

A review described the season as a suicide mission in Seattle. So I think it happens early as it did in the game.
If it is later, it'd be a flashback scenario to actually see what happened to him. But I'm not sure how they could pull that off.

American streaming shows don't usually have seasons that long. IDK why.

Its probably how they get bigger actors inbetween projects, UK series are even shorter
There was only one episode in the first season that was pure filler
