Everybody has been talking about Joel being a ghost which I didn't believe at first, but I can see the very first trailer being ghost Joel now..

I just watched the last trailer again and for a split second you can see whoever grabs Ellie has a beard

I first assumed it was Joel that grabs her because she knows his smell lol

Maybe it's Tommy..

I also don't think the trailer with the woman about to be hung is actually a earlier timeline.. She was about to be gutted just like the dude Ellie saw get gutted in the first gameplay trailer.. And the virus has been explained as progressive so that kills the whole early version of clickers angle to me..

So many possibilities can't wait to find out

Im with the guys saying Dina is the antagonist. She may not even be the primary antagonist, but she's got to be the enemy. In the recent gameplay, Ellie sarcastically asks Dina if she knows how she'll die. Dina sarcastically remarks that yes, Ellie will kill her. That was foreshadowing, albeit tongue in cheek. It's got to be Joel she's avenging. Not only narratively, but for the players investment.

The big theme has been repeatedly touted as revenge. If you played the OG, you're not going to care about Dina like you would Joel. The savage killing sprees wouldn't be nearly as cathartic and personal if it was all over a character you've known for roughly all of 45 minutes. I think Joel dies, and I think he dies in brutal fashion. I fully expect ND to gut punch everyone. The first half of 2020 is loaded.

The Last of Us Part 2 Director Clarifies Joel's Role in the Game

After readings comments by the director, I’m leaning towards Joel actually not dying, but is severely injured. Not to mention, I remember seeing a picture with both Joel and Ellie’s voice actors dressed in mocap for what’s assumed as the final scene of the game and that it would have a beautiful ending.

I honestly believe that some of those scenes aren’t in the actual game and was added to confuse players. Most notably, there was a scene from the first game that showed Joel getting attacked and infected with Ellie shooting him. We all know that it didn’t play out that way, but it was still added to confuse us. Games and movies do it all the time, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the case with this one as well.

They also cut one of the trailers to make it look like Joel was about to get shot by Ellie when in game it was the moment where she saved his life. I'm not watching anymore story trailers I'd rather them put out more footage on game mechanics.

Same. There’s really nothing more that they can add to the story trailers without it getting into spoiler territory. I’m curious to see more of the new mechanics and how the combat is improved. I wonder if they will have a season pass as well seeing as the game will have no multiplayer and will already be on two discs.

We gotta have more faith in Druckmann than that I don’t see them going past this one, just a gut feeling, but who knows where they take this narratively.

UC is much more lighthearted generic action type story (it’s a GOAT action series and not just typical game but if I have to boil it down it would be that), so sequels made sense, and even when they got heavier in 4, it seemed to put a ribbon on the main series.

Going forward with Cassie seems like it would just be Tomb Raider

Everybody is on the Joel Trojan horse..
Tommy and his wife are the prime suspects to die for me..
It is a strained relationship between both Joel/Ellie..
Druckman and Gross have said in the two interviews posted..
That Joel comes in after the horrific event that causes Ellie to wild out..
And his role is huge..
Just like Anna/mystery woman..
Even in the first trailer..
It’s alluded to her relationship with Joel being kind of strained..
Dina is probably three things..
A sleeper cell for WLF or FEDRA..
Marlene’s daughter(like someone mentioned on reddit)
David’s surrogate daughter(my long shot theory)
Tommy and Maria have probably had a serious impact with Joel not around..
So I can see Jackson being attacked and destroyed..
Another father like figure and mother killed in front of her..
I’m of the belief that this is an eye for an eye type revenge story..
I think this is a two sided(possibly three whenever we find out who Anna is)story..
I think they are just misguiding us on just Ellie and not the other characters that could have hateful/vengeful spirits..
Not only towards Ellie/Joel..
But to other new characters in the story..
Also something interesting(I think I’m going to start another play through next weekend) mentioned on reddit..
The Cult was slightly mentioned when you are walking with Tess to the first mission..
I don’t remember the dialogue but if true..
Then this cult has been around about the same time as the fire flies(which according to both director and head writer)..
There are still remnants of..

Two different people, my guess is that this woman and Ellie end up running into each other while she's on her revenge tour. Joel's gone by this point and she becomes the replacement character.
