I think you can reach a happy medium

Well the problem is that we don't give a shyt about Abby's character by the time we get to play with her. We just wanna skip to the climax because the game is in media res and this character has already killed a fan favorite.

I'd suggest that the game starts with Abby's hospital flashback, then the game starts how it did, and then after Joel's death they do Abby Day 1-3, theater scene, then skip to Ellie Day 1-3, then finale. This way it sets up the Ellie revenge angle AND it sets up the Abby revenge angle in chronological order and prevents players from feeling like they are being forced to play with a character they don't care about just to get to the end.

Either that or you choose Ellie or Abby's side and then do the other side 2nd like Sonic Adventure or Resident Evil. As the game is currently built, it's annoying because you're not experiencing the game in order and you have to wait for so long to get to the end that you aren't as invested.

I mean, I get it, not everyone was able to like the ride ND wanted players to take with the format they presented. And if the goal was to appease to almost everyone, that last option you suggest would've been the "happy medium".

But
I like they just did what they wanted and forced the player to go through the story they wanted to tell. I'm one of those people that was able to enjoy Abby's story and get very into her gameplay as it was fun as fukk.

There's clearly a divide between players that just couldn't get into her after the switch with Ellie and those who bought into her even though at the start it was :martin:

:dwillhuh:Wow that good, I am so confused about this game. I prioritise story over everything in a game and that’s one of the heavily criticised aspect of this game.
This story is excellent

People had expectations of one thing and received something else entirely.. Once you step back from those expectations, this story is truly excellent..

Joel story plays out like a tragedy and I'm okay with that as a matter of fact give me more of it in my gaming :ahh: not every story has to be a hero story.

I want to say Ellie's kind of plays out like one too but even though she lost everything she ended the circle of violence and can start anew.

What kills me about the Joel shyt is that they aren't being honest who Joel is/was. If you played the first game, it was implied Joel was out robbing and killing and setting "tourist" up for licks for YEARS. Tommy got away from him because of how much of a savage he was. Adopting Ellie as his surrogate daughter doesn't absolve him from his sins.

Abby's daddy is not the only father Joel has killed.
