It's not. Use common sense.

20 years after the outbreak. No infrastructure to transmit much less manufacture a cure. Doesn't stop a clicker from killing you. So, A cure is pointless.

If you missed the lore before finishing the game. The fireflies harvested 3 innocent immune to no avial. What the fireflies was doing to people was delusional and borderline dooming humanity. The immune above all else must survive and proliferate. Joel made the right move.

Don't blame people that misinterpreted the ending. I believe they added that lore as a copout.

Yeah, i heard the recordings from the doctor and marlene. The way they ended made me think that he wasnt telling the truth

I didnt read/watch any of the spoilers for Part 2, but IDK where they go from here

Yeah, Joel ended up making the right move. The issue is that Ellie suspects something, and you can see in her reaction once you save her. But she wouldn't know that the Fireflies were lying either because A) she was comatose during that and B) there's no opportunity for her to discover that unless in Part 2 she stumbles onto this information.
