i think it was the worst show i've ever watched... and i fukkin loved it. what an incoherent, pointless, cobbled together sack of shyt. the end when they're basically having a fake expository "this was clearly made in post" conversation about Tedros's downfall as he entered the arena was magical, and everything after it was comedy gold. HBO would be wise to milk this and do a 5 episode series explaining how much of a disaster it was.

the finished project was like giving a bunch of kids who have never made tv $300 million and a crew to make tv.

As a whole, this show was both terrible and not as bad as it was made out to be. First 4 episodes were goofy but entertaining, and the last ep was a trainwreck.
I don't even want to try to make sense of the terrible writing, but my brain can't stop asking the question about what the fukk happened with Xander. One scene he's being tortured with an electric collar and then the next he's helping Tedros set up Joss' ex. Every time he was on screen after that I was just confused. It's not like everything else made sense either, but that shyt was really bothering me.

Abel really came in and just fukked up this whole show for no reason.

no character has a proper arc. if you had to describe this show to someone in 1 or 2 sentences, there's nothing to tell them. "Weird dude seduces a popstar, but he's bad, but she likes it sometimes then doesn't then does, and shyt."

"what happens to her? her career tank? Does he get his comeuppance?"

Nah, not really.

honestly this was like the show version of that most recent Fantastic Four movie. you can tell at almost every moment that it was 2 completely different things slapped together b/c they needed to put out a "finished" product. nothing ever made sense, and the story didn't gel at all. you could tell there were plotlines that were cut by like 90% and they "did their best" to try and puzzle what they had together.

they have a real opportunity to do a season 2, but not a continuation, like a "The Idol: What Went Wrong" type docuseries. i think it'd do the same numbers this did, if not more. they obviously have a shyt load of footage on the cutting room floor. explain the original vision, have talking head interviews will all involved, etc.

Yeah, I agree. There’s no way the finished product was the original intent when this was filmed. This was definitely piecemealed together in an effort to have something to put out.

Probably has to do with Abel’s interference in the creative direction.

It also wouldn’t surprise me if this was rushed to have it ready for the Max launch and/or they were about to run over budget. I could see the team saying we need more budget and time for reshoots to tell a complete story and Zaslav were like nah. A 5 episode run tells a lot in itself.

they shot another series and then re-did it at his house b/c he didn't like the creative direction or some shyt. i need a doc about this show. i don't think there was anything here to ever make a truly compelling show, but they definitely had more of one before Weeknd and the nepo coke perv got their claws into it

These two played back to back is a vintage Weeknd track with the switch in middle. Hitting the high notes. The voice modulation. The rapping. It's like going back 10 years in time. Even the Chloe character, who I despised, acquitted herself nicely on False Idols. :wow:
